Nope, no cheap eco-friendly cases here. (Actually, they may be the eco-lite Vortex cases, but they don't have holes if that's what you're wondering.)

Yes, those are the ones I was referring to! Thank you! I am still waiting for mine to come in the mail and ones with the holes in the cases always get real banged up during shipping. I was going to be disappointed in Synapse if they started using those cases.

Synapse always maximizes the bitrates of their releases and since these are two of my favourite horror sequels, I will double dip. To add to those points, having the original poster art is always a plus. Gory, demented, and totally off-the-wall, these movies are absolutely worth your time.

If you do happen to pick up the Synapse versions, would you comment on how the PQ compares to the UK? I am also interested on how the original Image release compares to the UK release since it does have a lower bitrate.

As far as features, I know the UK has an exclusive doc on the making of all three films as well as an exclusive interview with Graham Humphries, I think. The Synapse release of the 2nd one has a couple exclusive interviews as well. The 3rd film is pretty much bare bones on both sets.

To my eyes, the UK release was too bright.

HOO boy, Basket Case 2 was a waste of money! I guess I was partly just doing it to fund Synapse, though, so it could be worse. But yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the original, but this one made it look like The Exorcist. It's weird how the reporter thing seems like it's the main plot for most of the movie, partly because the reporter is the only likable actor in the movie. I don't like how the last act almost comes out of nowhere (well, it has a couple scenes setting it up here and there). I don't like the excessive use of footage from the first. I don't even like how the whole thing seems like nothing but an excuse for silly rubber monster makeup! Neon Maniacs did it better!

The first Basket Case is tight and focused in comparison, and had an ending that kinda worked dramatically in a disgusting grand guignol fashion. It also had that great skid row setting, with real affection for all the local freaks. It just isn't the same having people in a remote house and all the freaks just being gibbering dudes with plastic on their heads. None of them are developed as characters, and in fact I kind of viewed them as the villains by the end, along with that Betsy Palmer-esque lady who runs the house. Duane sucks, too.

I'm not sure if I should even watch part 3, as it's still sealed! I might be able to recoup more money!

BC3 is worth seeing for the jail scene alone!

Watched the Synapse HD release of Basket Case 2 last night. There's no denying how gorgeous the movie looks in HD. As stated above, the sequel ain't a patch on the original. Synapse's HD presentation made the movie that much easier to watch. At least I've something to be grateful for.

I already own the UK steelbook, are these an upgrade or around the same? Someone has already said that they think they were too bright in comparison. I'm pretty sure the first movie is way better than the image disc that came out years ago, but comparatively for the trilogy (features and all) which are the best discs to own?

The first one fits into those late '70's / early '80's horror movies like "Hills Have Eyes" or "Evil Dead", and the second one is "Freaks" by way of those mid '80's horror comedies like "Re-Animator" or "Evil Dead 2". They're definitely very different movies.

How is Basket Case 3? Worth getting if you like the first 2 and Henenlotter's work in general?

If you didn't enjoy Basket Case 2, you won't get much out of 3. Frankly, I hate the Granny Ruth character...something about her just irritates the **** outta me!

I think the sequels are enjoyable in their own right, although they lack the seedy charm of the original.

I actually showed the trilogy to my future sister-in-law a couple of years ago, and she's been obsessed with the films ever since. Her birthday's coming up, actually, so I might buy her something Belial-related.

Ah, sorry you didn't care for it, but I thought it was surprisingly fun and I felt it had enough elements to build on and branch out from the previous film. Still haven't seen BC3 from my UK trilogy set.

I have a question concering BASKET CASE 2. I saw a German streaming version yesterday and there was a strange scene transition at the end of the movie: Right after Susan tells Duane that she has been
[Show spoiler]pregnant for six years
the scene fades from the two lying on the bed to them standing upright and struggeling with each other. Is this how the scene is supposed to be or was there something cut out of the version I saw?
