Totally disagree. Hard Target is Van Damme's best film and the action is terrific (in the NC-17 cut).

Because it probably doesn't exist. Those bootleg workprints are just that - unfinished edits. The NC-17 cut is the closest there is to an authorised director's cut.

I'm not so sure about this! Scott Adkins will give Jean Claude Van Damme a run for his money, and more.

In the fighting stakes, sure, but not for acting/charisma.

Adkins certainly has more skill in the fighting/choreography department.

It looks kind of bad but seriously I really like Rhona Mitra as an actor I just adore (Doomsday is frigging awesome, and that scene where she faces off against that knight is just awesome), and Robert Knoepper too is an actor I constantly enjoy seeing. Scott Adkins is pretty good on the action too. I'll buy it.

And on Adkins / Van Damme, I don't feel a same game. JCVD always stuck out to me in his films in that he'd really take a bad beating as the hero, rather than just being overwhelmingly superior like so many martial artist actors.

The original Hard Target is a classic. I saw it in summer of 94 here in Australia and the cinema was packed!!! It is certainly held in high regard with Van Damme enthusiasts. For me, It's John Woo's best US film. Great villains too!!!

I agree. I personally think it was Woo's best movie. JCVD IMHO has made some great movies. Hard Target is near the top. Some of his later overlooked movies though I probably like more,in particular In Hell, and in my books his best film ever, Wake of Death.

I try to check out all of Adkins movies these days, his action films are usually pretty awesome. I am very sure that he can do justice to a Hard Target sequel.

It's strange, (but refreshing), the US release not having the obligatory fake rated/unrated cut thing going on.

This will actually be streaming on Netflix, the day of release, as well.

it actually is not half bad. I reviewed it late last week and it was a fun enough DTV martial arts movie. It's not going to hold candle to the John Woo/Van Damme one, but I never expected it to. It's more than competently handled and makes for a decent popcorn romp

Apart from "We have no budget, shake the camera to hide the fact!", I thought it was decent. Rene has already proven with the Death Race DTV sequels that he can do cheap, competent R Rated action and this is no different.

Death Race 2 is really great. Amazing considering the budget and such. I didn't really like Death Race 3 though. In any event, will try this one on Netflix before buying.
