Keep it because someday you'll hear that there was some difference in that edition that makes it highly desirable.
Though we're talking about BluRays replacing BluRays, a good example for me is that I got rid of the DVD of Terminator 2 that had the "descriptive narration" for the sight-impaired. I figured I didn't need that, so I got rid of it. Now I'm married to a sight-impaired person. You just never know. Update: Just checked and actually that track is on the BluRay I have now too, so, that's good. But my point stands, if not my example! Last edited by willbfree; 08-18-2016 at 12:10 AM. |

Depends. If it's something like Revolver's DVD release of Terry Gilliam's Tideland, I hang on to it, because it's got tons of extras not present on the relatively barebones UK Universal BD release. And then curse when I see the German BD. Otherwise, I take the offending release (UK BD of Chinatown, I'm looking at you) and place it in a large cardboard box. When there's enough of the little blighters, I sell them all to a well known company for nowhere near as much as I paid for them and spend the resulting pittance on more BDs. Or, last time, Sir Gorge Solti's recording of Der Ring des Nibelungen.

Try to sell it if i can. My minimum is usually $5 though, otherwise I probably won't bother. I mean postage alone costs $2.65.
I'm hesitant to just GIVE discs away. I remember old worthless DVD's (like those with $.25 Amazon trade value) ended up being quite useful during UpgradeAndSave (Best Buy). They were very effective in me building up my blu-ray collection. I severely doubt they will do that again for UHD disc, but you never know. |

If there's no reason to own the older copy anymore then I toss it or give it away, assuming it's worth nothing. If there's a reason to keep it then I have a drawer with various movie crap and old editions I am keeping for some reason are usually in there. The Star Wars DVDs spring to mind, because they have unique special features. Also some region A copies of movies I later replaced with region B releases, like Big Trouble in Little China. Might as well keep them just in case. Sometimes I combine two releases into one case, like putting the Robocop remaster into the trilogy box or putting Witness' DVD in with the BD for the special features.
The only movie I have two boxes of on the shelf is Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, because both the Arrow and Scream Factory releases have cool packaging and exclusive stuff in them. I want them both on-hand. |
