Paul, you need to re-read that Cnet review. It was rated the best PQ he had seen in 2015. And it does do HDR.

Was originally gonna wait for a price drop but ended up using the last bit of a gift card to pre-order this from Amazon, so it only cost me $6 and change. Can't wait to give this a third watch; this and Arrival are pretty much neck-and-neck for best film I've seen this year at this point.

Sad this is on page 3 on release date. I am annoyed that the DVD is the one with the disc art and not the blu. Also the ultraviolet didn't redeem on the website listed on the card, I just had to redeem it on VUDU |

I bought this Blu-ray from Target earlier today, but I'm going to bide my time revisiting it, though, since I've got other stuff in my stack. |

Pretty great little movie, even though the story is nothing new and the New Mexico locations are too green and grassy to double for West Texas. In a year where I can't think of one great film, this one certainly hits the top of a "best of the year" list mostly out of default.

Bought it today. Saw this in the theatre in August and it was the first film this year that got a 5 out of 5 rating from me. Since then, I have only given one other film that 5 out of 5 and that was Hacksaw Ridge. IMHO, these two films, so far this year, both deserve serious recognition with nominations from the Academy.

Just finished it. Excellent movie. I've only seen 15 movies that came out this year and they all ranked from very good to excellent but Hell or High Water takes the cake for best film I've seen this year so far. It did get some obvious influence from No Country for Old Men and The Town but its very much its own film. I read a review today for the blu ray saying that the first act is slow but if you can make it past that, the 2nd and 3rd acts are great. All 3 acts were great from what I saw. The gas station scene was priceless. Why isn't Ben Foster in more movies? 5/5

Just watched this. Wife is working for the double-time on Thanksgiving so I'm a free man! Anyway, like Sicario I'm not quite sure I agree it was an amazing 5/5 movie of the year type experience, but man I really did like it. Talk about relevant too, considering what just happened in the election and the new look we're giving the troubles of "fly-over country." I also like how it had a different take on times changing than No Country For Old Men did, but also a very similar one. Just a bit different way of putting it. Amazing acting, great cinematography. There's a moment where Bridges' character doesn't know whether to laugh or cry, and it's so gut-punching.
They don't make movies like this anymore, which is why you see occasional low rating review on Amazon from some millennial who says it's boring and slow-paced. Pretty good looking image for a digitally shot movie, too. Another thing it shares with Sicario. |
