It absolutely is a bargain. The Panasonic is the best player out there, especially when used with the hacked firmware that makes the player both region free AND removes the user ops (allowing things like skipping past forced warnings & logos and also turning off forced subs on international discs). It's a rock solid player that has played everything I've thrown at it. In fact... I own two.
Why invest in 4K and chase the highest quality possible if you're going to cheap out on the player that is at the head of the chain? If all you want is to spend the least amount of money possible, the Samsung can now be had for $278. Considering both DVD and Blu-ray players were $1000 at launch, I'd say $700 (and now $600) for a player that is not only the best UHD player out there, but light years beyond ANY of the players ever released in a format launch, IS a total bargain... <NO SARCASM> |

All Blu-ray players that offer the bitstream feature will do Dolby ATMOS and DTS X. Its up to the A/V receiver to decode Dolby ATMOS and DTS X. Yes this Panasonic Blu-ray player will play 3-D movies when connected to a 3-D display (in fact most 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray players support native 1080P 3-D Blu-ray). OPPO will offer two rear USB 3.0 ports, hopefully one day all new Blu-ray players will offer at least USB 3.0 or even better USB 3.1. |

I've already got a 4-year-old Panasonic BD player with the hacked firmware which cost me about a sixth of what the UB900 did and is just as bullet proof when it comes to disc playback (edit: minus UHD, natch ![]() Last edited by Geoff D; 10-17-2016 at 08:07 PM. |

I've gotten used to the flip down design, it actually makes for a really clean appearance. |

As for the flip-down front, mine started to squeak after a few months which highlights just how tackily built this deck really is. |

IMO, they will have to be much lower than the Oppo. It may be a nice player but not on the same plane as the Oppo.

@ img eL, don't think we know OPPO's UDP-203 price yet.
@ Wendell, hope you are right as Panasonic's design, build quality, components, specs and performance are excellent. OPPO's UDP-203 benefits in playing SACD audio discs and Panasonic's DMP-UB900 advantage is that it's also a Hi-Res audio player. It's a buyer's choice to select among these premium 4K HDR BD players that best match their needs. |

Your correct Robert, we do not know the official price of the OPPO UDP-203 yet. Many believe it will be $499 at launch. In addition, one negative about the OPPO UDP-203 is that it most likely will not have any streaming features built in when it is released. A firmware update in 6-12+ months might add 1080P or 4K streaming support on the OPPO UDP-203.
The Panasonic DMP-UB900 is available now and it is the best 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player on the market (that could change once OPPO releases the UDP-203). A big plus for some is that the Panasonic DMP-UB900 offers 4K streaming which is a must have feature for those that own 4K projectors. If one does not need DVD-Audio or SACD support then the Panasonic is a very nice Blu-ray player with a good build quality and THX certification. Personally I am waiting on the OPPO UDP-203 to be released, but the Panasonic DMP-UB900 is my second choice. For some consumers the Panasonic DMP-UB900 is their first choice since 4K streaming is a must have feature when connected to a 4K projector. |

Not trying to derail this thread, but I was wondering if Panasonic has made their players more reliable in the last few years.
I bought a Panasonic DMP-BDT220 in January of 2013, and it has been a turd ever since I bought it. I turn it on, and it's unresponsive, and does this frequently. I have to unplug/replug the power to make it usable. I've read of others having the exact same problem with that model and others. I used to be a big proponent of theirs, but this player led me to buy two other brands; a Sony and Samsung which have been very reliable. |

![]() I prefer only owning OPPO, Panasonic, and Sony Blu-ray players since they offer reliable firmware updates over the life of the player. Some other brands have more reliability issues and stop offering firmware updates. I have never had a standalone Panasonic Blu-ray player break. Family members that I know own several Panasonic models that were released back in 2010. So 6 years with no problems. That being said, some models of Blu-ray players might have poorer designs and might break in a year or less. |
