Hyped for this. Especially if it's good 3D like you say.

I think we've all got high hopes for this. It's good to hear that it's been well planned from the outset.

Wow, looks absolutely amazing. I really hope this is a great film and it has a successful run at the box office. This has the potential to be a surprise Summer box office hit. But unfortunately it's probably going to need good reviews here in the states to get people in the seats. I hope I'm wrong though because there's some serious passion in it that I can see just from the trailers.

Saw the 3D trailer for this on Saturday before Wonder Woman and I was blown away! Can't wait to see this one and really hope this gets a 3D Blu-ray release in the US.

For Valerian and 1000 planets 3D to be a success, kids are going to have to convince their families to take them to see this movie. Hopefully it'll also appeal to those who are sci fi/fantasy genre fans too.

The trailers are very good and give a hint at what the story is about, unlike 2012's John Carter, which mainly showcased the action and was a disappointment in the US box office, with an overinflated budget too.

I believe this should do better than John Carter anyway, and hopefully is a big summer hit, since it doesn't have as much competition during its week.

In the US it's out the same day as Chris Nolan's Dunkirk, isn't it? Spider-man two weeks before and War for the planet of the Apes one week before.

I've got a bad feeling about this...

Same day as Dunkirk? Hmm. Hopefully families with kids will be inspired to see this one instead, having already seen Spider-Man. This might be safe, as Apes is a very dark, depressing mood, war film series. But you're right, that the odds are going to be a challenge to overcome here with this unproven film. I hope it does well if it's good.

3/4 of the way into Trailer 3 of Valerian and the City of 1000 Planets, it says "Experience a spectacular 3D event". I saw this trailer in 3D before Transformers Last Knight 3D and again, the 3D looks strong in several parts.

There's a lot of Luc Besson fans out there that will go see this day one. I would have gone to see this even if it wasn't in 3D just because I have loved all of his other movies/productions.

I'll aim to see this opening weekend, or at least 1st week. From experience I know 3D screenings are not guaranteed beyond that.

Hopefully the Asian markets will make up for it.

And it will be Besson's money since much of it was self-financed.

How much? He's hardly got George Lucas money and the budget for this is huge.

The latest trailer I saw had some of the strongest 3-D I've ever seen on the big screen. It's a must-see for that alone, but the crazy world-building looks spectacular too. I've always had a love-hate thing for The Fifth Element. French humour is strange. I wish they'd cast different actors for this film, though--Dane DeHaan and Cara Delavingne are two of the least likeable stars around.

I agree with this. But it's Besson, so I want to see it, in the theater, if possible.

I'm not a fan of Milla Jovovich but I still liked The Fifth Element. There's plenty of actors I don't really enjoy but I still see the movie. As a fan of films I think it's unfortunate someone doesn't watch a movie because of an actor they dislike. Although all bets are off with Adam Sandler now

On a side note I wonder how many IMAX theaters will be showing this when Dunkirk is out the same day. This has become my most anticipated film of the summer and it's mainly because of the amazing 3D trailers.
I honestly don't believe this movie is going to loose money, here in the states it might not do well but with the global market I see it easily making it's money back and then some.
Plus I think it's great Besson is making this film, he's always wanted to make it. He grew up on the comics and surely is passionate about it. Lots of directors never have the opportunity to make a film they've always wanted to make because some studio head doesn't see the vision or the profit in it. Profit being number one.

No IMAX screenings were planned, if one goes by the ads.
Digital and RealD 3D only, AFAIK.

Damn, I thought for sure I saw something somewhere with IMAX 3D on it.
I guess it was just my hopeful dream. Now it's become my nightmare

Fifth Element has some weird humor, I agree. It's still an interesting sci fi film.

If Shia LeBeouff was the lead in this, I'd have second thoughts about seeing it even in 3D, unless he completely changed his style and toned things down compared to his way over-the-top performances in the Transformers films. In his defense, I imagine Michael Bay encouraged him to act that way for the sake of humor. I haven't seen him in a major film in a long time though, so no worry. He was decent in I Robot anyway, in a small role.

The kid that played Green Goblin, Harry Osborne in Amazing Spider-Man 2, did a decent job in that film despite his hair style, so I believe he'll be able to give a believable performance here too. The girl, I haven't seen her in a movie yet. Hopefully she's a good actress.

That said, it's a good thing when we get some newer actors to headline major movies and give more actors a chance instead of every movie having Mark Wahlberg in it. He even wants to take over the role of Nathan Drake in the proposed Uncharted movie... In his defense, he did a good job with what he had in Transformers Last Knight.

But yeah, the 3rd trailer's 3D was amazing also. So great to see a film that seems to care equally about the 3D too, as with Guardians of the Galaxy 2 3D.
