South Korea Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets 3D Blu-ray (2017) [Region Locked / Free]

In 2017 Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets was released on 3D blu-ray worldwide except in the USA, where it is 2D only

Best place to buy 3D version:
Region A: The Hong Kong release is OOP so Taiwan is your best option.
Region B: UK
Region Free: There's a limited to 1000 Korean edition that is listed as region free, though note that the title on screen is in German. The Indian edition is also region free, but be warned that it is audibly censored - a word is bleeped out on the soundtrack. The Belgian edition is also region free, though the bonus disc is region locked. Make sure not to confuse this with the French edition, which is entirely region locked.

Looks awesome although I'd like a trailer to give me a rough story idea. Love Fifth Element, Lucy not so much.

The effects remind me of John Carter's creatures and the prequel Coruscant city from the Star Wars prequels; the entire planet being a city. Looks promising and if they nail the 3D, this could be something.

Produced in France, the distributor for the USA is EuropaCorp USA (2017) (USA) (theatrical)
and for the UK Lionsgate (2017) (UK) (theatrical)

I wasn't expecting this to be so massive. Looks incredible. They seem to have created a vast alien world. With Avatar sequels constantly being pushed back, this will help.

Some were drawing comparisons to Jupiter Rising when this was announced, but now that we have a look at what they've got in store for us it all seems very distinct and I don't expect there'll be so much talk of that. Hope it's as good as it looks, and makes the most of the 3-D.

Looks like a fun movie with great visual design. Besson is clearly passionate about that universe. I'll remain skeptical that he invests much in 3D story-telling and spectacle though.

Looks interesting. Anything with the Beatles in the soundtrack can't be all bad.

I guess you've never seen 'Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band' movie. Lots of Beatles music, just not performed by the Beatles.
This looks fantastic, however.

No, EuropaCorp distribute their own movies in North America now, beginning last year with The Transporter Refueled. They just opened Shut In this weekend.

If you meant the Blu-ray, EC's two previous releases were put out on BD by Fox in the USA.

Question: Do I need to see this in 3D?

Luc Besson: You can, honestly.

Question: [Laughs] I can?

Luc Besson: I’m not a super big fan of 3D. But, once in awhile, like “Avatar” in 3D, it’s amazing. There are a couple of films I’d rather be watching in 2D. But I saw the teaser yesterday in 3D. I hope you can see that in 3D. The shot of the canyon in 3D is [amazing]. You see all the levels. The 3D is very impressive. I’m amazed by the conversion. I don’t know how they do it.

I think it looks like it will lend itself to 3D very well. Just hope they push it.

It looks like it offers numerous opportunities to have fun with 3-D and enhance the entertainment value of the movie. Whether or not they'll take advantage of that remains to be seen.

I find it a bit ignorant for someone to say "I’m not a super big fan of 3D.". That's like saying "I'm not a big fan of music, but every once in a while someone does something worthwhile with it."

It doesn't sound like something he's given much thought to. But sometimes that doesn't matter. If the stereoscopic supervisor is ambitious enough and the directorial style lends itself to 3-D you can still get excellent results.

There are numerous shots in the trailer that could look spectacular in 3D, it's going to be a matter of whether they fully appreciate the potential that's already there. If they can deliver on that, it should be something special.

Thanks. Though he's not a big fan, it's nice to hear he's open to 3D.

Shame Besson feels that way, let's hope the conversion team really push it if the director is fairly apathetic to the conversion.
