I'm not talking about deleted storylines either. It really looks like they shot multiple different scripted material, to see what kind of film they could find in post production. Since The Two Towers, it seems PJ & Co. write a script and do rewrites up until the scene is shot. Then they edit the movie together and rewrite to fix any issues that come up and spend a few weeks on reshoots.

I've always been a sucker for epic length movies -- starting with Spartacus in the 60s.
Some of my favorites of this century are Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Watchmen, Avatar.
Maybe I have a non-functional butt numbness reflex or just a really comfortable couch.

Love this movie with the exception of Jack Black. I loke him fine -- just thought he was wrong for the part.

I recently was told that studios never include commentaries when listing the times of bonus features. I lost that argument, but now it seems the only way to get 13 hours of content for this release is to include commentaries AND the extended cut. Oh well, just when you think you have something figured out.....

It would be nice for a new release of the original too with every commentary and documentary about it. There were quite a few done in the LaserDisc boom.

There are 13 hours of bonus features spread out over the various DVD releases, without including alternate cuts or commentary tracks.

Wow. But there is no way all that will fit on one disc if it does not include commentaries.
Despite what that cover shows -- there must be a separate disc for bonus material.

Well I hope they mean it and that this will truly be the "ultimate" edition.

For me that means a new 4K transfer, BOTH versions of the film, all audio commentaries, the production diaries, other archival special features and ideally a couple of new features thrown in too. That will do just nicely thanks.

If it's an ultimate edition with both versions of the film and extensive special features I would expect it to be 2 discs (at least).

Yeah, I'm not sure of the math of it, I was actually assuming two bonus discs if they are Blurays (one for the diaries and one for everything else). But all of it is probably SD, maybe they can get it onto just one bonus disc? (I was also assuming the first disc would be identical to what is released now, but they could put at least some of the smaller features on there.) There are four DVDs that are just full of bonus features, plus three more which have the movies plus more extras. It's also possible they might just do what they did with Lord of the Rings or Terminator 2, where they just bundled the DVDs together but didn't even put them on Bluray discs.

Nifty, I've been scanning my collection and thought I had picked up a copy of KING KONG (2005) already but hadn't found it yet. Now I can just wait and grab this in February.

It would be nice if Universal would also do some improvements for King Kong vs Godzilla and King Kong Escapes too, but Universal might wait for Godzilla vs Kong to do any possible new releases of those movies.

I noticed this on another blus' cover art recently, can't immediately recall the title though. The character's head was pointed to the right of the picture but the face was weirdly pointing to the left. It's enough to make you wonder if the cover art was being created by the same artist and that artist is purposefully doing the image editing strangely as either an inside joke or just to see if people start to notice and post about it online.

I don't know why some are demanding a 4K remaster, this movie looks terrific as it is.

This movie is a uniquely epic disappointment though. Coming right off Lord of the Rings and with such great material, and yet being so incredibly flawed. I don't blame people for still being butt-hurt about it. I am.

15 years later and you're still bothered enough to post in a home video release thread? That's sad. I can't begin to comprehend bothering to complain about a movie I didn't like 15 years ago in a home video release thread.

Apart from some over-indulging and that silly business on ice in N.Y, I preferred this remake to the 1976 effort.

Original is still unbeaten IMO.

Well if you'd stop talking down to me for a moment you might realize I own the damn movie and was commenting originally to say I don't think the features justify a re-purchase. I'm just also now commenting that the movie is so uniquely a mix of great potential and terrible execution it's no wonder people still feel the need to point that out.

Every damn "home video release thread" on here contains tons of discussion as to the quality of the film.

Dude, don't let it bother you, everyone is entitled to their opinion and the original Kong 2005 thread is full of them. For every 100 people you find that says the movie sucks, you'll find another 100 who like it. That and the 11 year old butt-hurt he received must make one awfully cranky, so I'd cut him some slack. Always loved the film myself, flaws and all, everything but the monkey on ice bit which someone else already mentioned.

It doesn't really bother me. I just find it odd. If it was someone who blind bought the bluray and didn't like the film I could understand them expressing it. If it was just 1 film in a multi film package I could also understand expressing dislike for it. A movie 11 years old that people have admittedly seem years ago and still expressing their dislike on a new home release of the film though just seems strange.

I still own the DVD, probably the best looking DVD I've ever seen. I know the Blu-Ray is better obviously, but the DVD genuinely looks HD in its own right, even though it isn't.

I love this movie. CGI overload but the sense of old school adventure just tickles me. One of my favorites.

Yeah, for all the hate this movie gets, I really do love it. Guess I'm gonna have the retire my custom 8-disc collection.

I like Peter Jackson and the bonus features on his movies more than the movies themselves so I'm going to buy this. I've never owned it before so I'll be seeing all the documentaries for the first time. I think the movie isn't all that good but I'll give it another chance. In this case, the bonus features are the main draw for me and the movie itself is the supplement.
