Well, they're pushing this as I've seen countless commercials for this.
I've already locked in my ticket for Thursday night. I hoping for some decent entertainment.

Yeah, I know. I created the thread for it.

And, I agree.

I was planning to watch this for sure tonight, but after reading the thread and finding out that there have been no reviews yet, I might pass. Hopefully there are some positive reviews later tonight and I'll budge. I love Sci-fi, but the cinemas have been eating a hole in my wallet.

Canada needs an A-List equivalent.

There's a (mixed) review from The Guardian. I won't link because I don't like them.

I will watch this simply because I love alien/zombie genre.

I didn't see Battle for LA or Skyline or any other Alien invasion movies, but the trailers for this one looked decent enough. I'm in Canada for work in Calgary, so I will try to see where the closest theater is for me to see it.

It’s super early, but starts with a 51 on metacritic after four reviews. Honestly, that’s better than I would’ve expected at this point (though no doubt the number can change with such a small sample) and I would have gone tonight as long as it had it been in the mixed or average review range but when there are no reviews I get wary

Same here.

And having just seen Before We Vanish (a soporific Japanese arthouse flick about an alien invasion), I doubt this could possibly be a more disappointing experience.

Just got out, and let's just say I would give it 3 out of 5. There is a reason this didn't have any solid marketing.

Would be good enough for me.

I liked the tv show Falling Skies the first few seasons. Unfortunately it got bad around season 4ish.

Well I'm interested in the choice for the setting.

War of the Worlds was an actual invasion. This takes place after we've already submitted to our overlords. I figured it'd be a cluster. Trying to tell the stort of a rebellion and overthrow in under 2 hours is gonna be tough without reducing it to a CGI fest.

But I love stuff like this.

Just got back from the theater and the movie, for the most part is good but portions of it held it back from greatness.
It was engaging to watch as I was invested in what was happening on screen. It's well constructed as the filmmakers build a world that resembles a bleak, war torn third world country plus there's a portion of the movie that focused on the resistance and it played like a well orchestrated heist movie. Also, I give points for the cinematography and the score as well.
If there were any issues, it would be that it focused more on tackling timely issues, which is quite obviously on display here (Participant Media is this film's backer.) that it loses sight on the characters, though well acted by the cast.
Credit to Rupert Wyatt and crew for creating a unique and different kind of sci-fi invasion thriller and I found it interesting and entertaining but it could've been much better.

I'll echo much of this, including the rating. I thought the characters were given proper weight; anything more might have given too much away. I had a problem with some of the special effects looking a little too early 'sci-fi channel' quality. A minor flaw considering the point of the film.
