Stale inventory?
LOL I am all for enthusiasm but let's be realistic..
The first 4 potters are not stale inventory, and are in fact pretty important releases at the moment.

I think JWBBud has nailed it right on the head; HP individual titles didn't move that well on HD DVD, and they are hoping to clear out the inventory. I know it's my Blu-tinted glasses and all, but I really do believe that this is a precursor to hopefully dumping the format. IF Warner was going to go exclusive, they would want to wait until after Q4 to get all the holiday sales and clear out inventory. After the holiday, you need to get rid of the remainder, so throw it all on sale! And that includes any new titles that didn't move very well. Yes, it's a very one-sided opinion, but hey, at least I'm expressing it in the right forum!

Ookie, I'm not sure, and maybe some others can answer this: Yes, all the Blu BOGOs are stale inventory, more or less. That's why you have those types of sales: move product! Now, I believe there was at least once exception, the week of Transformers, but for the most part can anyone verify if there's been a Blu BOGO that included recent (winthin last 30 days leading up to the BOGO) releases? Just stepping out on a limb here, but I don't think we've had a BOGO with such recent releases like HP...

Well from Best Buy I got HP OOTP (Dec 11) with Ocean's 13 (Nov 13). Not sure for Amazon BOGO though.

The movies didnt move after a whole two weeks of release? AND goping into a huge sales period where gift card redemption will go into the millions? Wasnt the 2nd pirates movie included in a bogo less than a month after release?

Dude, crack kills.

I can understand people supporting their favorite format, and it may be easy to be complacent after 52 weeks of straight wins, but honestly it looks like the BD studios were caught napping. Why no major after Christmas promotions? Or will there be a Warner BD BOGO tomorrow that we just don't know about yet?

Blu may need to throw a counter of some sort, because even in the history of blu and blu bogos we have never had #1 in dvd much less #1-#4 at the same time.
It is nice to see blu Planet Earth moving neck and neck with the red version.

The amazon numbers aren't just folks buying the products for the HD DVD players, or their own personal use.

Although I'm apalled, I know someone who is ordering these movies to turn around and return them at Best Buy for credit. He's cheap.... kind of genius, but still cheap. He can't be the only one out there who does this. I've read about others doing these things on the slickdeals forums under the "money makers" posts.

Hell, if I couldn't afford Blu-Ray, I might even consider ordering a bunch to just trade in on Blu locally. But I do care about the numbers, so alas.....

You know though, lately I've noticed the trend that HD-DVD sells better on Amazon than...well...everywhere else. I mean, look at PLanet Earth...number 1 on HD-DVD Nielsen, but at the bottom of the top ten on the comparable rentrak charts.

Pirates 3? Spidey 3? Die Hard 4? The Simpsons? None of these really got too high (no top 5 there) on Amazon.com. I do believe HDDVD's presence is stronger on Amazon than across all retailers. Reason enough we've been seeing "look at Amazon!" threads from HD-DVD fans a lot, even before this.

I'm sure Amazon is the sole conclusive evidence of the true nature of the war, until Blu-ray goes into the lead again.

This, in part, may be due to the ever-shrinking HD-DVD spaces across the various retailers. I've noticed that almost all of the stores I went into for Christmas shopping excursions had less and less shelf space (and movies) over the course of the last 2 months. So, if you can't get it locally, you'd HAVE to order it online.

Amen.

I would caution everyone not to go into serious panic mode if HD DVD squeaks out a win this week. I don't think its going to happen, but you never know. Furthermore, this is always been a marathon, not a sprint. Remember folks, the PS3 is poised to move nearly 3 million units this holiday season, and that's roughly 600K Playback devices @ 20%, not including BD SALs.

Just give things time , let them work out. It's evident to me that the PRG is desperately trying everything they can to show some sort of momentum. The entire HP set of 5 flicks is $65 bucks on Red. Just remember the game is hopefully entering its final stages.

Isn't Disney proposing a 45% off Amazon sale, on discs including Potc:AWE?
(and Ratatouille). I know that to some of you $19.99 seem "alot" (the ones spoiled by the BOGOS), but that's less than some day and date DVD releases frankly.

But considering both Rat and Pirates could be bought for 23.95 since the day it came out...I mean, really, it's not that big a deal. Disney day and date on Amazon was honestly some of the best priced new titles out there.

Now if those were the prices in B&M stores, that might have more impact.

I am talking about Warner titles ...a tit for tat action, so to speak.

Amazon just doesn't do the volume to really swing the weekly sales figures. I would be more worried about the HD DVD sale going on at Best Buy. Remember that the red side hasn't had nearly the special sales we've had for the past 3 months. They moan about it all the time on their boards. I don't think HD DVD has any chance of winning the weekly sales figures now that the full force of the Deathstar...ummmm PS3 and its massive numbers sold the past month are out in the open.

As I mentioned previously, we don't know how big is the sales volume of the #1 and #2 titles on Amazon. BB is of a big concern too... I guess we'll see next Friday...

Only limit of 2 of same title per order, and 20 max free per order too.
