SGX is among optional downloads for Gigabyte and MSI boards.
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...d=6074#utility Do you think HDMI 2.0 + HDCP 2.2 + SGX + i5/i7 Kaby Lake means this motherboard is ready for the UHD drive? Last edited by triffid; 01-28-2017 at 10:06 PM. |

Probably any BDXL drive made after 3Q 2015. Its a possibility that older BDXL drives could become BD-ROM 4.0 with a firmware update. i have no firsthand knowledge of that though.

I just received an answer from Japan. Pioneer support technician says:
"...SGX and HDCP2.2 are required for UHD BD playback. Pioneer uses GA-Z270X-Gaming 9 for checking UHD BD playback. Unfortunately we are only testing in the Japanese edition,* so we do not know if it will work in other local editions." Gigabyte Gaming 9 and Gaming 8 are pretty much the same, so I guess it is safe to say those are first two 100% UHD compatible boards. *Japanese edition of Windows 10, I believe Last edited by triffid; 01-31-2017 at 03:46 PM. |

Update: Biostar GT9 and GT8 also support HDCP 2.2, they are equipped with two HDMIs, one 2.0 and the other 1.4b.

I ordered the BK model yesterday. Hopefully I should receive it by the end of the month. Its price at Amazon.co.jp and Pioneer.jp is the same. However the price of the top X model differs a lot: 44.000 Amazon vs. 32.000 Pioneer. I do not understand why.
Pioneer also offers one free UHD movie with the purchase, but they do not ship overseas. Amazon is the only option at this moment. |

ASRock Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming-ITX/ac using a Kaby Lake 7700K processor and HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2. So Netflix 4K is working also on Z170 boards (not only Z270 as some sources online originally claimed). I guess nobody knows yet if UHD blu-ray will also work on Z170 boards but my guess is that it will work. I did check SGX on my setup using HWiNFO and it is available: I already have a standalone Panasonic UHD player so for me the main benefit with Pioneer drive would be for backups. And it will probably take some time before that "feature" becomes available. I was actually contemplating buying the Pioneer drive on amazon.jp yesterday just out of curiosity. But while it was available for preorder yesterday, it now on backorder... If anyone has some other source with stock that will ship to Europe please post a link. |

Don't know to be honest. My TV does not support HDR so it has not been a priority (and I have no easy way of telling). I have a HD Fury somewhere so I guess I could plug that into the chain and see what the PC is outputting when I try to Force HDR...

No problem. If you ever get a chance to check, please let me know, but it's not a priority. I'm just curious because all of the information about it from Netflix and Intel have only mentioned 4k. So I'm not sure if HDR is possible.

LOL. Seems someone at Amazon Japan woke up just now and found two more Pioneer UHD players sitting on a shelf... So ordered one of them. Should get it next week and will report if UHD Blu-ray works on my setup (Z170).
Isn't it strange that Pioneer write that PowerDVD 14 is included with the drive. Isn't the latest version 16, which as far as I know does not support UHD blu-ray? Wonder if this is a typo or some scheme to get users to pay for version 17 upgrade once that is released? Guess I will find out eventually... |
