Really hope it's not a 2K master.
I 100% know they shot a lot of the film practically. However that doesn't mean there wasn't significant amounts of digital replacement or digital enhancement done to those effects. I personally doubt it due to how much the film was pushed up (originally October 2017, then august, and now may), but what they shoot doesn't always end up on screen. The Thing prequel is proof of that.

You guys would be surprised as to how much is digital in shots like that:

I'm not surprised in the least. Especially in that shot. I'd be willing to bet that shot of the alien is entirely digital. The rig they build to shoot those scenes was real, and they aren't strapping some dude in a suit to the top of it. That'd be dangerous as hell.

Lots of stunts are dangerous.

Yes, they are. But some of them can't be done with performers to look as well, or in this case as alien, as the director would like.

Practical with digital touch-ups is the way it should be done IMO. Film in real places, use real costumes and practical monsters, then tweak with CG when needed to sell the illusion better. I wish more did it that way.

At least with this Xeno I think they had not a man in a suit, but a puppet. It looks like they covered up rigging or reflections on the Xeno head. The center line down the head looks off, both the movement and reflections, and it even develops an off-white glow. And the same area in the poster has some noise inconsistencies.

But the muscles are totally CGI, the way they jiggle wildly. The tail and "wings" evoke the practical motion in the first Alien movies, as does most of the torso. So yeah, I believe this one is practical but with some light CGI-tweaking and completely CGI legs and arms. The overall motion is super realistic (and awkward, like it's a puppet), so if this Xeno somehow IS completely CGI, they're blowing my mind.

Personally I thought that Xeno was all CG the moment I laid eyes on it. Gonna be interesting to see the VFX breakdowns on this one.

Just for posterity, some of the practical effects work in Covenant:

For BR 2049, Deakins said this on his forum: "And yes, the film will be finished with a 4K DI."

It's Deakins, 4K was never in doubt for Blade Runner.

I was just spoiled with the spoileriest of spoilers for this but am much more excited to see it now. It's totally understandable why some wouldn't like [insert spoilers here] or the "not-Alien-simple" plot (impossible after Prometheus to be honest) but this is definitely an opening night IMAX event for me.

It's exactly what I wanted and simultaneously what I didn't know I wanted. Pre-ordering this UHD the moment it's available.

I think the ALIEN: COVENANT that exists in your head is much more interesting than the ALIEN: COVENANT you're going to see next week.

Or maybe I'm crazy.

But I now know the entire plot rundown. Usually that means:

i am hype, destroyer of expectations

...but in this case, with everything I've seen and been told, I know for a fact that I'm gonna love it.

Are you basing it on the Wikipedia synopsis? Because it leaves out all of the character stuff, and a good deal of its explanations aren't actually revealed in the movie.

Just saw this last night. It was, in my opinion, a perfect sequel to Prometheus. Will be seeing it again in IMAX and will be a day one 4k purchase for me.

Nope. It's kinda stupid of me to be following a lot of press reviewers because once *the big spoiler* has been seen it can't be unseen.

That's exactly how I imagined it. And Damon Lindelof isn't anywhere near this one.

I find this fascinating, because I saw the film last night and for the life of me don't know what *the big spoiler* could refer to.
