Mine thinks I am insane for buying so many movies but as long as I stick to our agreed "allowance" amount every week (around $60 a week) then she doesn't mind. When I go over that cap though, oh boy... look out. The rage! The rage! To be fair this is all my fault.

She lets me have a media room with all the shelves, plus she bought me Blade Runner posters, plus she let me upgrade my TV 6 months after I got one as a gift from her for Christmas. So really I can't complain at all, she is incredibly supportive. When I screw up and spend too much in one week I feel incredibly guilty about it.

My wife doesn't care, sometimes she even enables it. We're both responsible adults, I don't feel the need to tell her what to spend her money on and vice versa. I had a mom that I had to hide my purchases (mostly movies and video games) from when I was a teen, not looking to ever go back to that.

I know what you mean. I've made the mistake before of choosing movies like It Follows only for her to go an endless rant about how it was the worst movie ever with her going through a laundry list of critiques. And plenty of my childhood favorites like Stephen King's IT she thinks suck beyond belief. Or if we watch older catalog movies before she was born, she'll constantly laugh and harp on the clothing, hair styles, acting delivery, etc. Basically she's just a very talkative person and can find anything to get her going on a tirade, no matter how trivial.

If she complains I tell her it's my money, and it makes me happy, now go in the kitchen and make me dinner, then I sleep on the couch for a few days to teach her a lesson

My ex wife used to give me crap about all my hobbies, movies included. She's the type of person that believes if she doesn't like something, nobody should. It's a big reason for our split. My current girlfriend is the complete opposite.

I keep all of my Blu-rays in the upstairs guest bedroom walk-in closet, because I don't want my living room to look like the inside of a Best Buy store.

I keep them in these plastic bins that I buy from Target, and I organize the bins by genre ("film noir", "neo-noir", "horror", "1980s teen comedies", "giallo", etc.). It's not particularly sightly to look at, but it's hugely efficient in terms of adding movies to the collection.

There's a wooden chest behind my living room sofa where I store 150 or so "crowd-pleaser" Blu-rays (James Bond 007 movies, Star Wars movies, Marvel movies, Mad Max movies, etc.), just in case people want to watch something fun when they visit, but those movies are out of sight inside the wooden chest.

If you walked through my downstairs living room, then you would never know that I'm a big movie fan, save for the big hardcover book, Into the Dark: The Hidden World of Film Noir 1941-1950, that I keep on my coffee table.

My music collection (roughly 1,000 CDs) is stored in cases that I keep underneath my bed and in my bedroom closet underneath the clothes, so I keep that fanatical part of myself hidden from plain sight as well.

I have a decent collection between blu-rays, dvds, and iTunes. But I find my self rebuying physical copies of my iTunes, just for that reason. Drives me insane

I think another reason she's not crazy about my blu ray spending is because a lot of times instead of catching up on shows we have saved on the DVR or Netflix I'd rather go upstairs and watch a movies I've already seen multiple times.

I tell her "Hey, I spend a lot of money on these movies. I gotta watch these bad boys. In fact, I'm gonna watch bad boys 1 and 2 right now. C-ya babe.

During my first divorce my ex threw away (yes, I said threw away) over half of my collection. I've been slowly trying to recollect what I lost. It is taking me a long time. Being stationed overseas doesn't help much either.

My new wife has an unhealthy obsession with collecting panda bear stuffed animals, so she pretty much leaves me alone with my movie collecting. I leave her alone with the pandas and she leaves me alone with my movies. It is great!

I only buy on discounts, sales and good ebay finds. I have been goin overboard lately but I also need to cut it with the impulse buying and only get the good stuff. My SO's fine with it

My girlfriend loves my collection. She knows I'm not nearly done collecting and she's totally fine with that. She loves having so much to decide from. She also buys way too many clothes, so much so that they're just in piles in her bedroom so she wouldn't have any room to talk in the first place.

They're always watching...
My high school Calculus teacher had an entire room dedicated to her doll collection, which included vintage Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler porcelain dolls. When a bunch of us students stopped by her house after a field trip, she showed us the room. It was really quite awesome. Shelves upon shelves of vintage porcelain dolls.

Everybody has his or her something. Blu-rays just happen to be my something.

My wife minds a little sometimes, she kinda thinks I'm nuts, but she's always happy when she says, "I'd really like to see XYZ movie tonight" and then I go get if off the shelf.

The only type of comments I get are like: "Wishmaster Collection? But we don't even own Casablanca yet!" Which I think is a fair point.

I also have movies that have sat unwatched for years because I'm "not allowed" to watch them without her. Not that I ever run out of things to watch.

Recently I received The Dracula and Mummy Legacies in the mail. Her response: "Meh. It's not crack."

Conversely, she doesn't care at all about me having a collection, so when my 2 year old dumped juice in my coffee table/steam crate where I keep my movies so my two year old doesn't get juice on them, she laughed. Reminds me not to take the hobby seriously.
I chimed in on the last page...

Quite frankly, if your wife has to nag you about your hobbies, maybe you didn't pick the right wife?

We both love watching stuff and she's been watching more horror and adult titles so it's nice. Sometimes she wonders why I spend 27 or 30 on a Blu but she doesn't get mad.

The trick is to act like you didn't watch them around her.... .

I always watch stuff when I get them to make sure there's no issues with the disc so I can get a replacement if need be.

With the amount of titles you own? Yeah, there's no way your place would be mistaken for a Best Buy these days.

A shiver would go down my spine if I was invited to a teacher's house to check out her doll collection.

Very telling. For instance, it tells me that you didn't read very far before making that statement.
