Most tv ads these days hardly promote HD TVs they promote 4K TVs. I don't even remember a new add or promotion bragging about the incredible HD 1080p quality of a particular tv set

DVD is awful but some move lovers either can't afford even the best HD setups and they'll settle for upscaling from 480p. Others just don't freaking care lol. We are niche consumers. Albeit there's enough of us to keep physical media alive and enough of us to drive the innovation of the manufacturers to make the new technology affordable.

Luckily they are finally starting to not include DVDs in combo packs anymore as more people would rather have a digital copy in its place.

When the wife and I bought our house around 18 months ago we looked at it while the previous tenants still lived here. What is now my media room was the guy before me's media room as well, and he was a MASSIVE horror movie fan. Horror posters, autographed photos, the works. Massive television. What did his movie collection look like though? A bunch of old DVDs and pirated ones burned to discs with tape labels on the side.

Most don't care about packaging or video quality. We are the weirdos. I always try and keep this in perspective.

I hope not, it's become the standard and it deserves to be.

4K is like a delicacy, and even if you could afford to eat caviar for every meal why would you want to?

I'm sorry, but what? This statement makes absolutely no sense. If something is available in 4K format there is literally zero reason to go for less. One can get tired of having caviar everyday. I'm having a hard time believing one can get tired of seeing films/shows truer to their source format.

Probably wasn't the best analogy, and I agree with you but I wasn't really talking about 1080p as it pertains to film and television but more 1080p as a source format itself.

But I guess Rocky probably wasn't thinking about it that broadly, my bad

If 4K is caviar, then I have eaten it every single day and still not tired of it. In fact, I'm hungry for more.
