The difference is the policy of the individual studios. Disney hasn't put anything out domestically since the Best Buy 4K/3D combo of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2. GEOSTORM & BLADE RUNNER 2049 were disappointments for Warner Brothers but still received domestic 3D releases. That I think is why we're getting JUSTICE LEAGUE.

I don't think it's about box office gross at all anymore. Disney is just done with 3D Blu-ray releases in the US.

You can hope, but I wouldn't expect anything other than Disney spitting in your face.

Yep. Frozen made $400,738,009 in the USA, making it the most successful animated film of all time, but it still hasn't gotten a 3D blu ray release there.

Glad to see a lot of 3D showings of Black Panther 3D at my theaters have opened up today, Wednesday, as they usually do nearing the release day Friday. Earlier in the week, the only 3D show was at night.

The 3D looks promising from the full trailer, with medium to strong 3D layers.

Can’t hurt to put in a preorder. They won’t take your money up front and you can always cancel. Go see it in the theater and it won’t be a blind buy lol.

From one of the comingsoon.net reviews

If you get a chance to see Black Panther in IMAX 3D, do so. It’s worth the additional expense. The Wakandan ships fly out of the screen. In the final battle, Black Panther and Killmonger fly out of the screen and you feel like you’re along for the ride. I was additionally happy that the screen actually widened to the full IMAX dimensions. And it didn’t just happen in the action scenes. A few of the quieter scenes also went large and ultimately made you feel like you were in the middle of the intimate conversations between father and son.

Marvel seem to have finally woken up to the fact that good 3D is a perfect fit for their material, I am looking forward to this one.

Just as they decided to limit/ not release 3D blu rays in the States. None of it makes any sense. They offer spectacular 3D movies which do gangbusters at the box office then don't release 3D blu, or give the 3D blu a really limited release.

Yeah, I already have tickets for a Real D 3D showing tomorrow. It is just playing in IMAX 2D in all the theaters near here, but if it lives up to the reviews (first MCU movie with Universal Acclaim from critics) I might also go to that a week or so later for the expanded ratio.

It makes even less sense than no sense since they do release 3D blu rays outside the US.

Just returned from an afternoon screening and I'm happy to report it's a 3-D feast. Marvel continues its excellent run of conversions, really pushing the depth in this fantasy land of Wakanda. There are numerous jaw-dropping shots of the hi-tech underground caverns, especially the mag-lev railways - wow! The flying craft are a joy to behold as well, zipping in and out of the screen, with some very effective tracking shots following them into Wakandan airspace. Some of the early action scenes are a little choppy, which nullifies the 3-D effect, but as the film goes on we're treated to some brightly lit, colourful tribal fight sequences atop a waterfall that look amazing in stereo. And the big action finale doesn't disappoint.

The film itself is an all-round solid entry in the Marvel canon. The characters are all vivid and have personality. Story is good, and features interesting dilemmas. African motifs run through every element of the film, from music to production design to historical themes, which is unique for a superhero movie. I wouldn't say I was surprised by any of it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it all the same. It deserves to be a hit.

For 3-D fans, it kicks off 2018 in style.

Valid points above about Marvel being fans of better 3D in their films (especially in the past couple years) but how the home division is tied up by the ruling hand of Disney. I bet if it were up to Marvel, they'd release the blu ray 3D in the US as they had been doing even when Disney wasn't.
It's a loss to not be able to re-experience strong 3D at home if it's only available that one time in the theater, so that's why at least the import option is a major relief compared to nothing at all.

Awesome review, thanks MercurySeven! Glad you got to see it early. Sounds like the 3D lives up to the 2nd trailer. Great news. Going to see it this weekend.

Default Saw it tonight

It's a very entertaining film--very different from the other Marvel movies--with elements of everything from The Lion King, Zulu, and Gladiator to James Bond. Good performances overall, lush production values, and strong 3D throughout, especially for a conversion. Plan to stay late (it's a long film to begin with), and oddly enough, we saw only one trailer--Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom--no Avengers: Infinity War or Ant Man and the Wasp. Theater was pretty full at 7:45 PM, but I have a feeling the 2D showing was sold out.
