Honestly, I wasn't thrilled at all about the movie in general. I must admit that as always, FOX does a good job of the audio/visual department. Otherwise, the storyline for me lacked substance - nothing really worth grabbing my attention.

I'm sorry I bought it. I found it tedious and predictable.

I just finished watching it for the first time, and I really liked it. Looks and sounds great, and I liked the end.

It wasn't big in the States, and don't know if it was a huge release here, but the moment I saw Mercury pass infront of the Sun on the digital projector at the Cinema, I knew I had to get it on Blu-ray for that scene alone.

I think... maybe if you go into this film EXPECTING anything from it, you may be disappointed. If you EXPECT action. If you EXPECT sci-fi. If you EXPECT horror. If you EXPECT a certain type of anything.

I went it to it expecting nothing and was moved to tears. It is one of the most moving films I've seen in some time. I LOVE it and don't care it anyone else does, like it's my own little treasure.

For me, this film works on an emotional level. Yes it's action, suspense, horror... whatever. And I think it is all those things. But what really struck me, what really got under my skin, was that it speaks to human potential, spirituality, and sacrifice in beautiful and tragic way.

Like I said, if you expect ANYTHING, you very well could be disappointed. If you go into it with an open mind and heart and are a compassionate person with some level of intellect, you might find in this film what I did.

Okay, I don't know about anyone, but I was totally disappointed in this movie. It got a 5.0 Highest Recommendation from this website. I had already pre-ordered it from amazon when the review came out which only reassured me I made a nice purchase.
Then I get the movie and watch it. Wow. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. I guess I just expected more. Did anyone else feel this way? If you didn't, could you please enlighten me on the merits of this film?

Let me just say, I don't think it's a bad movie just not great.

The movie wasn't great, but it was a good sci-fi flick.

I reviewed it over at my horror movie site, and gave it a 3 out of 5. I liked the tone and the message, but it borrowed way too much from "EVENT HORIZON" (gimme that on Blu, Paramount! LOL), and "SILENT RUNNING" to score any better in my book. Sci-fi is a tough genre in that when it isn't wholly original, it stands out more than, say, a horror flick or drama. Recycled storylines and plot devices are the kiss of death for any Sci-fi flick hoping to be taken seriously.

thanks for the thread, I think I was gonna get it today, and being a sci-fi buff I would have been thoroughly disappointed.

Thanks

ATTENTION : SPOILERS

good of you to speak of Event Horizon, that's what i thought too, especially the bad zombie guy at the end, and the stupid Chris Evans bloody death ... he should have found another way to break the tense atmosphere rather than put something "supernatural" - which wasn't really and not enough explanation, except the traditional "don't play God" thing.(I'm not a fan of Boyle, I usually hate UK movies anyway, I found Trainspotting boring and stupid, and liked the new ideas for zombies in 28 days later but the rythm was reallll slow).

You've got to be very careful with giving credence to reviewers (not saying anything about Sunshine in particular). I'm constantly surprised to see reviews of movies I love get low ratings and movies I think are just okay get stellar ones.

I thought it was a good movie, not a great one, but a good one. The Merits on this film? Well I think the biggest merit is it's a pretty good Sci-fi Space Film, which have been lacking for quite sometime. How long has it been since a good Sci-fi came out? Other than Serenity, it's been Years.

This movie was a good rental. (Thank you Netflix!) I was entertained for the first viewing but I don't think it's a movie I'd ever watch again though. Looked good on Blu though.

It was somewhat polarising, you either loved it or you didn't.
It hit a note with me, I loved it!

I think it is a must have in collection, if people want to see sci fi movie, this will be suitable movie for a movie night! it replaces event horizon until E.H is released on Blu-ray. No sci fi movie beat E.H movie! Its fantastic movie!

Yes there are similarites between Sunshine and Event Horizon and 2001... Of the 3 this one is my favorite... Event Horizone was too horror for me, and 2001 is so slowly paced... The special effects of Sunshine are awesome... Solaris on blu-ray anyone?
