I blind bought this movie and really enjoyed it. Very fun. PQ and AQ are great. That Snapchat crap on the slipcover is ugly as sin.

My wife and I rented this through our Apple TV yesterday. The 4K Dolby Vision was gorgeous and we enjoyed the film a lot more than we expected. I'll be picking up the 4K Blu-ray when the price is right.

I can't believe it's not a sticker, but printed into the slipcase. Ugh.

Finally got a chance to watch this tonight. I guess I'm in the minority, but I thought this was exactly how I feared it would be from the trailers, a bland, generic family action movie, which really should be PG, like the first film, and is directed squarely at the tween audience it depicts. While the film is competently made, there is too much CGI, and too many stereotypical children's adventure film tropes, like learning to accept what you are, and one another, and learning to work together. Surprisingly, there is very little villainy in the film, even less than I remember in the 1995 film (Bobby Cannavale is certainly no Jonathan Hyde) and the film takes a while to get going, and sort of coasts along merrily as it does. I also think it was a particularly bad idea to rely so heavily on characters and dialogue specific to young people in 2017, and I think that will end up dating the film pretty severely in about 5-10 years.

In its defense, the film could have been much worse--there is no gross out humor or particularly crude or cringeworthy jokes. I did find Jack Black's performance mildly amusing, and Dwayne Johnson is certainly watchable, even if, by playing a teen in his body, he's often running around rather startled most of the time. But there is also no real sense of adventure or menace in this adventure film, either. The villain seemed like a last-minute addition, and while it is somewhat admirable that the fim can stick to the "plan" of a video game so well, it's also incredibly obvious how things will turn out in the end, and unfortunately, the ride there just wasn't as fun as I was hoping it would be.

I'll have to watch the Jumanji again before I definitively say it's better, but, wonky CGI aside, I seem to remember that Robin Williams really elevated that film, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle could have desperately used more adult characters to liven things up.

One thing I noted that was really odd, was that when the Blu-ray finished, the disc played its copyright notice, and then launched into the Gag Reel (a segment which provides a dispiriting insight into just how much of the film was CGI) before going to the main menu. Did this happen to anyone else?

This has happened to me for a couple of different Blu-rays lately. I seem to remember it happening for the restored Blu-ray of the first film as well.

That's the way all of the Blurays from Sony have been doing lately, you watch it all the way through & then it starts automatically showing the special features on the disc.

This was better than I thought it'd be, though I had very low expectations based on Central Intelligence. Kinda wish I listened to the family & saw this in theaters. But it made close to $1B WW (10X it's budget!) It didn't need my measly $48, even though it got most of that since I bought the steelbook.

So this could be a YMMV (or whatever), but at my store, they had the blu-ray with digital for $14.99.

Thought that was insane, but that's what the sale price said.

Fun movie. Better than I expected. Karen Gillan is very attractive in this movie.

This was very disappointing, perhaps all the high praise and ridiculous box office had set the bar too high but I was quite let down. I didn't find it very funny at all and I the whole thing was quite dull. It could have probably done with a bit more action too and I think it was a bit too long.

On the positive side though the 3D was very good and I was impressed with the depth and layers, that's easily the best thing about the movie for me.

If anyone is interested, it seems that the Japanese 1080p 2D Blu-ray will come with an English: Dolby Atmos (TrueHD core) track. The 3D Blu-ray is still DTS-HD MA 5.1, however:

https://www.sonypictures.jp/he/1193687

Other than the audio upgrade to the 1080p 2D Blu-ray, it seems the Japanese discs are dentical to all the other discs.

Is there an extended version of this film? I cannot see any references to this except on IMDB, which says "There are two versions available, the theatrical cut at 1 hr. 59 min. and a home video release labeled "Bonus Content," which runs 2 hr. 16 min.".

Does anybody here have a clue?

Thank you.
