I'd be open to one, but the official Jonestown story is full of such hogwash that I don't think a new miniseries would do it justice. The Powers Boothe one from 1980 is okay for what it is & it's certainly well-acted, but it leaves out so many damaging facts and elements to the story that it's practically fiction.

heartbreaking to see the last scene of Rachel trying to get out of the bunker. Its hard to believe their was never anything done about how the FBI handled this.. Just purely awful way to handle this should have listed to Noesner

Man, this was some good shit! Absolutely electrifying! Taylor Kitsch deserves an Emmy for his portrayal of Koresh. This is just one of those roles where I couldn't see anyone but HIM playing. Stunning performances all around though. The people that worked on this, especially since it has varying connections and influences, should work on a miniseries about the Oklahoma City bombing next.
By the way for people who liked this, you should check out a series called CRIMES OF THE CENTURY that previously aired on CNN. The episode about Waco is fantastic (as was the whole series). |

Just finished this up. Not bad, but why didn't the show go all the way and detail the damning FLIR footage that explicitly shows that the FBI went in to massacre the Davidians on day 51?
Very disappointing that the show didn't go anywhere near this. It is some of the most damning and disturbing evidence against the FBI. |

That and the recording from the cameraman of the ATF raid going "missing" too isn't a coincidence IMO. |

ATF royally ****ed everything up with that initial raid and were clearly the aggressors and post-event conducted some form of face-saving cover up and the show rightly depicts this, but there's so much bullshit conspiracy theorising around Waco that it's just exhausting wading through all the crap. That FLIR footage in particular has been thoroughly debunked.
This was a good show but viewers need to be clear that while they depicted the general incompetence of the FBI and I guess you could say aggressive criminality of the ATF with real insight and seeming accuracy (for the most part), they really do gloss over the man that was David Koresh and paint him as a well-intentioned martyr whose messiah facade only really started to crack in the latter days of the siege when he starting manipulating the other members of the cult to maintain the delf-destructive course they were on. The reality is that Koresh was always a manipulative despot and has been criticised heavily by many of the former child and female members who got out before the fire. Thibodeau on the other hand seems to be one of the former cult members who still romanticises his time in the cult and has a very high opinion of Koresh to this day, and I think consulting him so heavily has kinda tainted this mini-series' portrayal of Koresh as a result - especially in the refusal to depict cult members starting at least one of the three fires that ended so many lives during that final siege. Still no word on a blu-ray release?
My internet sucks, especially with everyone else in my house chewing up all the bandwidth, so I don't use any streaming services and had to download the show to be able to watch it. I really want to support it though by buying the blu-ray if/when it comes out because it was absolutely fantastic! |

Watched it yesterday and it was a pleasant surprise in terms of it being a quality mini-series, the cast, and how everything unwrapped.
[Show spoiler] Michael Shannon was brilliant in this show and I quite liked Melissa Benoist, too. Taylor Kitsch who played David Koresh made him seem like a very friendly guy and maybe he was (except for the part I mentioned in the spoiler), and there was also Annika Marks who I was interested in seeing acting again (last time it was on the show "Flaked" which she briefly appeared during one episode). I'll give The Last Champion (2020) a watch just to see Marks as I've grew fond of her somewhat. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5689056/reference/ |
