Some releases have beautiful (sometimes 4k) transfers, but I think they'll all at least fine.
Seriously? Lmao. Shove it Disney.

Well to be fair, it's about second-hand smoke, but I also don't know how many kids have seen Monkeys, Go Home! in the last few decades.

Yup. Any old film that has a character smoking (even an adult using a tobacco pipe) gets the "don't be a Cruella" PSA.

What's the general consensus on this one in terms of AV? Does it look good?

I thought it looked very strong. It was nicely detailed throughout and had a nice level of fine film grain. The color timing, though, was a little on the yellow side. This may be the intended look, though, since the DVD was similarly color timed. If you've seen Pollyanna on Blu-ray, this presentation looked just like that.

One thing that really impressed me was the composite shot of Susan (posing as Sharon) walking in the park with her mother. I don't know if Disney found the original separated elements and recomposited them, but the background plate of the park looked just as sharp as the rest of the film. I don't remember it ever looking that good.

I'm not the best to comment on audio quality since, at the moment, I'm only listening to audio through my TV speakers until I switch to a new surround system. From what I could discern, though, the track seemed to have greater clarity than its DVD. I distinctly remember that on DVD, the title song sung by Annette and Tommy Sands made the "s" sounds sound harsh ("Straighten out their mesh with togethernesh"), but they were crystal clear here.

the parent trap Remake is terrible. Just terrible. Only want/needed the original with Hayley Mills. Miss Lindsay who is just free of any Talent.

I've got to admit I vehemently disagree with this. I adore the original, but the remake is a more well-rounded picture. Yeah, the remake succumbs to the 90s trope of having the kids talk like they're 35, but I find Lohan charming in the roles. Both characters are better defined so that their differences become more noticeable. As much as I love Hayley Mills, she didn't do enough to make Sharon and Susan discernible from each other apart from what the script told us.

The relationship between the parents is more complex, too. In the original, they're constantly arguing, and it's all played for laughs until the end. In the remake, it's more sincere as you get the sense that these two people love each other but just couldn't find a way to make it work the first time around. I also think the supporting cast is more memorable. Chessy and Martin are great characters and make far more of an impression than Verbena and the grandmother.

I think the best way to describe each one is that the original is a screwball comedy while the remake is more of a romantic comedy. Both excel at what they're aiming for, and I'm happy to own both of them at last in HD.

Agree with the high marks on video (especially the original). Don't have a good audio setup myself, but Disney is known for having lossy soundtracks on their club exclusives.

Got both the original and the remake and neither one came with slips! Am I the only one this happened to? When I got Pollyanna a while back it did come with a slip.

Disney stopped having slipcovers on their DMC exclusives.

Great Picture Quality on the Remake version. You can see every freckle on Lindsay Lohan's face. I was listening through headphones so it only sounded average to me. Still worth the hefty Disney Movie Club tax is you're a fan of family comedies.

That's such a bummer. Considering there are no special features whatsoever on the disc, it would be nice if they could give us slipcovers to make these exclusives feel special and distinct.

I believe this decision was done a few years ago. I've typically ordered the newer titles a couple of times a year for the past few years and the last slip I received was for "The Love Bug," which was released in 2014...

The first 6 releases came with slipcovers, and since then, they have all been issued without.

- The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes
- The Apple Dumpling Gang
- Pollyanna
- Old Yeller
- The Love Bug
- Herbie Rides Again

(edited to add hariseldon's correct info below, in case anyone is just scrolling)

Sooner or later they (Disney) will stop bringing out those "classic" movies on physical media - specially then when they're bringing up their own Streaming Service soon (next year?). And it will not available in every Country. That will be sure
