True, but they moved the release date for Covenant up something like 5 months, so they probably just cut the conversion process out of the post-production timeline.

Unfortunately, I agree. The only cast I've heard of really is Key and Munn, and one of them can act fairly decently. (It ain't Munn.)

The remaining are B-tier, and that's being generous.

Isn't that the truth.

The original wasn’t exactly blessed with A list acting talent though? It was still a cracker.

The original Predator with Arnold? You're kidding, right? I don't know about Jessie Ventura (wrestler), but they weren't exactly nobodies either. Arnold was A-list at the time, at least for action movies. He had a string of great movies. He may not have been Cary Grant, but he was entertaining.

Steeldeel did specify A list acting talent though, no one would call Arnie an A list actor in terms of his acting ability. He was certainly an A list movie star but not actor.

Arnie isn’t a actor lol. He plays the same role every movie with the same delivery. I love T1 and T2 along with Predator but all I’m saying is the Predator films have never been reliant on good actors.

Yeah, but in 87, Arnold was a box-office draw. Carl Weathers was no slouch, either. Who's the draw here: Munn? Please. Key? Love him, but no.

Pretty much this.

And it's my fault for not being clear: I really didn't mean "actors," in terms of, well, acting. But at the time, Arnold was an A-list draw at the theater. Now, the Predator is the draw, or so the producers think.

Munn is the only reason I am interested...

Per his American Cinematographer interview Ridley Scott vetoed the conversion for Covenant. He'd wanted to shoot in 3D and been turned down, so made the movie without it in mind and refused Fox's sudden post-production request to convert it.

Absolutely why I went in to the theaters for this one back then. They were a big duo, who further highlite how ironic it was that Arnold and Stallone never worked together until the recent prison break movie (I already forget its name )

Didn't they also work together on Expendables 3 ?

Along with everyone else

What I meant was that the two were notably absent from ever starring together until that prison escape movie. One of the big deals about that movie was them finally coming together for a movie. It was a much discussed topic amongst action film fans for decades that they never did show up together in something Tango and Cash like.

Since then, you are right, they have finally been cashing in together and its no longer a big deal.

Commando Vs Rambo would have been great (back then).

While I agree he plays a similar character performance in nearly every film, that's actually true of most actors today. Only a few exceptions create a different dialect, appearance, attitude, personality and style, with Johnny Depp being one of the more well known examples of a character actor. But yeah, you make a good point about how actors can give good performances but still crank out the same character in a new role for each film.

Personally I'm inclined to give the movie the benefit of the doubt since Shane Black is writing and directing.

Agreed. Tom Cruise is the same in every role. And generally, that’s fine. He’s the action star of the 00s and 10s.

Yes, I was also thinking of Tom Cruise as a standard talented yet predictable actor in terms of playing the same type of character performance in most of his roles. The main key is, he's believable and convincing as an actor, so that is what really counts to sell the story and situations the character is facing.

Watching some of Jeff Bridges recent roles, he's become more of a character actor, playing a few different personalities and dialects with his voice instead of the standard performance that we might see in Tron for example as Flynn.

I'm going off topic with all that, but with the Predator, it's usually a new predator creature each time, since they're a planet of hunters based on the prior films.

I agree. The trailer doesn't look bad to me, and falls in line with what I might expect from a Predator movie. A lethal assassin alien monster hunting down humans. What can one really expect with this style of action/horror movie? Hopefully not a genius film, but at least an entertaining one.

Heck, Ready Player One by Spielberg earlier this year was entertaining, but it definitely wasn't an amazing film, even though he's an AAA director.

But the biggest disappointment is hearing this apparently won't be in 3D in the US. If it releases elsewhere in the world in 3D, then that's hopeful for a blu ray 3D release down the road at least.

And apologies: I didn't realize Thomas Jane and Olmos were in this. I generally like Jane, although the trailer still does nothing for me. If I can find it in 3D somewhere in the world, I'll import. I'm *sure* I have worse movies than this on Blu-ray.

I liked the trailer too as a few others did as well, so I agree that a movie in this action style should be given a chance if a fan of the horror/stealth/sci fi action genre. I can't imagine this would be any worse than any of the Predator films, which are entertaining for what they're trying to do. Have a predator land and starting stealth attacking his targets.

The lack of 3D is not good though if that's the case in the US anyway.
