Keep in mind that WB had given Supergirl to the Salkinds as a result of the Superman 3 debacle - having been unable to secure Christopher Reeve for a Supergirl cameo that he had no desire to perform pretty much slammed the door for WB - and they kept ownership until the implosion of their production company, whereupon the assets were bought up by various parties and Studio Canal picked up pretty much everything they had rights to. Since it hasn't been released on Blu-Ray thus far and people have been asking for it, we can conclude with good certainty that WB did not obtain rights to the film from SC apart from licensing it for a DVD release under their banner to tie in with Superman Returns. On the other hand, given the current trend of female empowerment in Hollywood and the fact that WB is moving forward with Harley Quinn and Birds Of Prey, I think it's very possible that WAC or just plain ole WBHE may yet poop out a surprise release of the film in the near future, possibly to tie in with the release of the Supergirl TV show's current season on home video. It's also possible that a UHD-BD set of restored Superman 1-4 and Supergirl will arrive in the near future, but I'm just being a bit too hopeful with that notion.

They are sold separately you know.

I have the 2 disc DVD and while supergirl is a tad lame I still watch it. If this new set had it I'd buy it. I think it'll released at some point but WB has shown real stupidity with their heros. Why do HQ when supergirl would be better?

HQ, Joker, and Batman are incredibly popular with the current crop of 1995-and-later comic book nerds and geeks who are into hyper-violence and dark comedy, so it's just business sense that they throw their weight behind whatever they can do with those three characters. Supergirl just never had the same market appeal of any other DC comics character because she was always nothing more than a side-kick or plot mcguffin in the comics, so the character has been largely neglected outside of the recent TV show, which has a modest following among female comic book fans. To be frank, I think it's possible we may yet see Supergirl in the DC Cinematic Universe, but the character will definitely not be the traditional Supergirl that we are familiar with. Most likely, she will just be a member of one of those lost Kryptonian colonies that we were shown in Man of Steel, which Zod and Friends used to replenish their war material for the attack against Earth or Superman somehow makes a trip into The Phantom Zone and picks her up.

I see that Supergirl's comic has come to an end with issue 20. It was a real slog reading it since Rebirth began; DC have gotten so much right with their comics lately but this has been flat out awful with a revolving pantheon of artists who have drawn the Girl of Steel in various grotesque ways and writers attempting to copy elements of the television series while shoehorning in unwanted teen drama. Kara was allowed to grow up on television but in comics she keeps being made the same lost little girl with no growth or development. It's a real shame as she has a lot of potential; they should let Dan Jurgens take a shot at her now that Bendis has taken over Superman and Action Comics.

Sorry for the comic ramble on a Blu ray forum but wanted to get my thoughts down somewhere.

Part 2 of your story...as confirmed in a podcast last year, WB now is the outright rights holder for SUPERGIRL since the Salkinds/StudioCanal deal has long since expired.

Anyway, now that we know about the 8 disc set, let’s hope we can get a proper 40th Anniversary box set of STM this year.

Hey hey that would be way too much to ask for. Studios can't be bothered with this sort of thing!

Some good points. She was given a nod in MOS but since WB booted him who knows now.
