I’ll see this because it’s Laika and I have A List. However, I’d be fine without seeing it too. I do hope it does well though and Laika will be able to continue making films. After seeing Kubo, I want nothing more than for Laika to do some sort of science fiction type film. I think that would just be amazing.

Even if this is only as good as The Boxtrolls (the "weakest" Laika film), it will still be terrific family entertainment.

Just give them the Oscar please! They need this for all the hard work they put into each film for the past decade. They finally gave an award to a non-Disney film this year after 7 years and I hope that continues. I have no hope for Toy Story 4 or Frozen 2. Both completely unnecessary and unappealing. What the hell does Laika need to do?

Kubo is one of my favorite animated movies of all time, and Coraline is fairly high up there too. Aside from that, I've found Laika films to be quite charming, but nothing groundbreaking. There's a charm and nostalgic quality to the stop-motion, and you can tell a lot of love goes into every little bit. That's the part I like most. I'll give this one a try when it comes out, but I probably won't rush to see it.

Movies are never made because they are necessary.

I’m definitely making a trip to the theater to support Laika.

A quite literally cartoonishly awful protagonist, a plot that makes no sense, lowbrow humor, and terrible gender dynamics add up to an unpleasant retro mess

Ouch

Saw it today and loved it. The film feels kinda like a Blake Edwards comedy with the styling of modern adventure film. It feels more like an adult-oriented film in that way but it doesn't go for cheap obscenities like a lot of "adult" animation tends to. The cast is great and the visuals are remarkable as always. My only regret is not seeing it in 3D but money's tight right now.

Had tickets to this at 6:30 tonight but our theatre had to cancel the showings because of "problems with the movie"

I'll catch it during the week next week now.

This movie has the second old-school western-inspired barroom brawl I've seen in a movie in the last two months. That's kind of weird.

Anyways, really enjoyed this, although I'd rank it with The Boxtolls in the realm of Laika films I really like, but don't quite love. That may change with a second viewing, though, For now, a strong B+.

Very good movie. Not quite as thrilling as ParaNorman or Kubo, but was taken by the visual ambition in this relatively small movie. The big action sequence in the middle is jaw dropping. Great performances. Had a good time.

I liked this but wasn't enamored with it like I was with Kubo and the Two Strings in 2016. The animation here is beautiful and clearly more advanced. The film offers some eye peeling set pieces though. As for the story though it's basic and retold many times.

I hold dearly Coraline and Kubo though. It's still some of Laika's best work.

I liked it. Story-wise it was ok but the animation and set pieces were great. Coraline and ParaNorman are still my favs.
