Probably 'cuz that's what's in the database.

Good to hear it's not coming from them, though. Of the non-Studio labels, I'm personally hoping Arrow go 4K first, though I'm sure it's still a good ways off.

it's odd. I've always been aware of the puppet master series, but I don't think I've actually seen any of them.

that being said, I've heard this movie is awesome and bonkers and it looks like a fun, splattery mess.

The excitement in this thread caused me to want to give this series a try. I watched part one tonight and was pleasantly surprised.

The special effects with the puppets (stop motion photography) was quite well done for a movie of this vintage and budget.

Sometimes, the endings of horror films can almost kill them IMO, but that certainly wasn't the case here. The ending was just a hair "tidy" for my taste, but the final scene definitely left me wanting for more.

All in all, I wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but it's a nice setup for the franchise. By the way, the old guy playing as Toulon looked VERY familiar to me and I couldn't place where I knew him from. I looked him up on IMDb but even then I couldn't quite place my finger on the movie or show I seem to be remembering him from...

Maybe you recognize him from Christmas Vacation?

I'm definitely looking forward to this, but I'm really bothered by the fact that Andre Toulon is now a Nazi and the puppets commit hate crimes for him. Andre and the puppets were always on the run from Nazis as far back as the original, and Puppet Master III is maybe the best in the series, and we see his escape from the Nazis who killed his wife, and the puppets get revenge for him.

Really, the only time Toulon was a full on bad guy in the original, classic series was Puppet Master II (my second favorite), but the classic character was not a Nazi. I just don't like that for him. Make the puppets killers again, with an evil puppet master, sure. But this is too much of a departure.

At least it's a separate timeline. This is like the Rob Zombie's Halloween of Puppet Master.

Opens in limited theaters and VOD today. Weirdly Amazon is listing the digital HD version to own for 99 cents, given its new release status and price on other services (I checked against Google Play and that was 6.99 to rent HD and 14.99 to own), I'm thinking that has to be an error.

Bought it for .99¢. If they take it down or reimburse me, that's fine. But for that price, why not try?

For those who have seen this; I've only ever seen the first three Puppet Master films, does this new one rely on knowledge from the other films in the series or is this more self contained? I want to watch this one but I am wondering if I should catch up on all the others first.

It’s like a stand-alone film, so you don’t need to have seen anything prior.

Wish I had seen Amazon's price before I bought it on Xbox today for 14.99. > And I rarely EVER purchase anything digitally but I had to see this before it hits disc.

It's pretty insane. I have a theory about Toulon that I hope turns out to be true in the sequel.

Well they corrected their mistake. Costs 14.99 to buy now and 6.99 to rent. The good news is they didn't take it away from me so it looks like those of us who got in get to keep our movie.

That's what I figured would happen when I saw the price. Usually, when a major company like Amazon makes a price error, they are quick to correct it, but tend to honor the price for the people who got it before the correction (I'm sure they have some insurance or loss % set aside for issues like this, and probably easier for them to take the hit than upset consumers, though my guess is the studio will get paid as if they were normal sales).

I just watched the Amazon Video version and really enjoyed it. It had a few funny moments, tons of over the top gore, and a good score by Fabio Frizzi. It was a different take on the Puppet Master movies I've seen before. Other than being open ended, it does a good job of telling a story without requiring you to see the original Charles Band/Full Moon movies.

There is a quick little after the credits sequence as well.

Just finished it as well.

The best Puppet Master film since Toulon’s Revenge.

Best way I could sell it to someone is by calling it Troma’s take on Puppet Master. It’s so ridiculously gory, offensive, and hilarious. And, despite the intentionally cheap aesthetic and puppet effects, this film gives the Puppet Master films a much needed reinvigoration of inventive kills. It’s so fun.

Can’t wait to get the UHD.

I was really excited for this, but frankly, it sucked. Big time. It has some creative kills, but one after the other to random characters wears thin very quickly. It also takes itself way too seriously, has no sense of fun, and has to balls to end with “to be continued.”

Oof.

It will be continued. There are AT LEAST 2 more films planned in the series.

I personally enjoyed this movie. Amazon had the digital version for $1 last Friday.
