Have you ever watched Star Wars: Episode 1 on DVD (THX Certified)? It has some of the worst edge enhancement/ringing of any popular mainstream DVD title. Upscaled, it looks even worse. It's so bad, they should have re-released it. Let's hope THX Certification of a transfer "today" means more than this did. (Note: Episode 2 and Episode 3 did fare better.)

He's still got the planned IMAX 3D releases of the OT, and the new CG TV series that's supposed to go in 2009 I think. Unless because 2009 is the 10th anniversary of Episode 1 he'll do the PT then.
One possibility is that he wants to help out a grand push for HDM for Xmas 2008. This will be a critical period for HDM. Having an Indy quad and a Star Wars trilogy (perhaps 1-3) out there with lots of promotion (especially considering the DTV switchover push) would really kick start things.

Exclamation Indiana Jones feeling Blu...

Sorry if this has been posted already. Taken from Joblo.comIndy feeling Blu

There's been a metric shitload of recent moving and shaking in regards to the whole HD "format war", which already seems to have Blu-Ray being declared the victor.

If there's any validity to this rumor, it would be just one more whip-crack to the ass of HD-DVD. From the CES show currently taking place in Vegas comes word that INDIANA JONES AND TEH THING WITH TEH KOOKY SKULLS is already being prepped for a Blu release. You can make your own black-and-Blu jokes about Ford's age -- I actually, almost inconceivably, am starting to look forward to the movie, despite the presence of Shia's questionable facial scruff.

Spielberg's flicks aren't covered by Paramount's (apparently no longer) exclusive HD-DVD deal, so the flick will reportedly be hitting the seemingly preferred format later in the year... probably just in time for Christmas. The disc will be certified for THX (wasn't Spielberg a major DTS audio guy?), along with Lionsgate's Blu release for TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY. Looks like that PS3 was a worthwhile purchase after all (for something other than UNCHARTED, anyway).

Why did it mention Lionsgate and Terminator 2? Is there going to be another version of it?

Except Joblo got it wrong (skimmed the article perhaps?)

As of right now, the disc is NOT being THX certified. Paramount is trying to avoid it the same way they avoided having The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles DVDs not certified.

Plus THX is not an audio format!

If you're going to quote my article at least get it right!

In my article I was talking about how the original T2 BD had additional steps that Lionsgate had to take to get it certified.

As far as another version...no comment.

That disc was made in 1999, when DVD was still relatively new. There was a learning curve.

New folks are in charge there, THX is really a new company now (independent since 2002). Nobody's perfect, but they try!

I got the impression that the pissed part is that Paramount is too cheap to pay the cost, so Lucas will have to foot the bill if he wants the cert. I would be pissed too.

I really wish someone who actually cares about film could get their hands on Paramount before too many irreplaceable treasures are lost or damaged beyond restorability. The crew heading the studio now absolutely sickens me. The only good thing they seem to be doing is alienating many of the greats so maybe they will have fewer great future films to screw with.

Star Wars: Episode 1 was released in late 2002 on DVD... and there were many excellent DVDs by that time period. This was not one of them.

(The theatrical release was in 1999.)

I believe that starting with ep. 2, they used the Sony HD cameras to shoot totally in digital so I'm assuming that helps by skipping the film->digital step

Thanks for clearing up that one for me. I thought I was going to have to double dip for a second there.

I would have refused to certify the disc unless it included the extended version

I think it will be a really good move for the movies excluded form exclusive deals to come out on Blu. It shows the companies actually care about the fine print of their contracts and boosts faith/loyalty, in my opinion.

Why was the part about Indy 4 being prepped for BD removed from the original article on the Blu-Ray.com news page?

Mistake? Or did someone let the cat out of the bag early?
