The Z9F sounds like one helluva tv but I can't justify getting rid of the Z9D for it at this point in time. Lack of 3D is not a deal breaker but coming in at a price most likely north of $5k US is. The D still rocks but the good news is I'll most likely be all over the Z9G in 2-3 years

While the Z9D black bars definitely weren't perfect, they were mostly not noticeable aside from the occasional blooming when a bright object was near them. |

kind of a bad look to not have your dimming working properly on "your big day". |

First off, I take it it's 100% sure there is no 3D? Was to be expected but still a disappointment to me.
I would love to read an in depth review/analysis by Vincent Teoh. Despite the lack of 3D I am still interested but it damn sure better be top of the line. Any further info? I literally just tuned in a minute ago so I'm not up to date. Quantum dots? Zone count/nits perhaps and price? |

no confirmation on quantum dots, zone counts, or nits. or price. looks like sony did some tinkering though to improve viewing angles. but there's mixed reports on the black levels of the Z9F. |

Could well be that the blacks take a hit as a result of the increased brightness and the increase in viewing angles, it may well still be a VA panel but who's to say that compromises haven't been made to improve those angles?

Going through the AVSForums threads, rumor is that:
It has 1500 dimming zones, Quantum Dots 4000 nits eARC HDMI 2.0 (no 2.1; not that I actually care about this) And of course, HDR10, Dolby Vision It seems like it’ll also have the new CALMAN version that auto-calibrates fully in minutes. Nothing confirmed of course, but those sound like pretty reasonable upgrades for Sony’s new flagship LCD model. Depending on the black levels and dimming zone performance, I might be swayed to the dark (lighter?) side of LCD... |

Lack of VRR and HDMI 2.1 is certainly a bummer. I understand PlayStation doesn't do that so Sony doesn't give a hoot but the X1 Ultimate is the only 2.1 capable processor at the moment and missing out on all the other benefits is just a waste. Not comfortable dropping $5k on the not-future.
I've been waiting to upgrade but I'm disappointed. Lack of 3D doesn't help. May very well stick with Vizio for now; 2000-nit HDR peaks and quantum dot color in the new P-Series is a nice upgrade for only $2k. |

![]() Would be a g**damn shame if the alleged light bleed in the letterbox bars is a direct result due to some type of "improvement" of viewing angles. ![]() |

Thanks, Robert.
Anything you wish to share based on your personal experience? What do you think judging from what you have seen so far? Have you seen the 65" or perhaps the 75"? Contrary to what I have said before, I just might consider getting a 75Z9F for the living room despite the lack of 3D (which really hurts btw, how ******* hard can it be to include it, Sony?!). But if I do decide to get one, I expect it to be near perfect in its performance, especially with HDR. Also I wonder what the chances are of the 75" being different/slightly better than the 65" like with the 65/75" Z9Ds. Last edited by DJR662; 07-31-2018 at 11:29 PM. |

its a nice set, no doubt but I just invested some $$ on the 75 Z9D and I'm totally satisfied with it. it will be my main 4k tv for the next 5 years or more for sure, wont be looking for any replacement until we see what happens with 8k in the near future.
