In the likes of Hardcore and Body Double, 8MM is a kind of movie that wouldn't appeal to everybody because, of its unsavory subject matter. Some viewers will be disgusted by it.

Have you seen every movie 20 years and further back? Would you like them to be spoiled for you? Maybe think about that before saying something so illogical.

I know he is done a few good movies since The Wicker Man, but most Cage movies before that movie were at least watchable and should be on blu ray.

seems to be a popular thing to do on this board. another guy was grumbling on the Zombie 4K thread about the same thing and that movie is even older.

People on a movie-centric site being sensitive about movie spoilers? You don't say?

Just because you've seen the movie, even if it's old, doesn't mean everyone else has too. I have no idea why such a simple notion is so hard for some of you to grasp. It's a simple courtesy to allow others the same privelege of not having a movie spoiled, just as it likely wasn't for you. Again, no idea why this needs to be spelled out. The age of the movie is 100% irrelevant.

The original DVD release of 8MM was in the proper OAR of 2:35-1. However, a later Sony DVD reissue of the title was matted to 1:85-1, at least according to the disc's packaging. I'm glad to see Scream listing it as being in 2:35-1.

by the same token as this is a movie discussion site it may not be reasonable to expect everyone that posts to assume that some "might" not have seen the movie. as for how old it is that does have a bearing whether you agree or not. sure if a film was just released last week then it's not an expectation that most have seen it. 20 years down the road not so much. this is the internet and it's hard enough to avoid spoilers for movies that haven't even come out let alone one that was 20 years ago. we are here to discuss an older fav being released so is it fair to say ok everyone has to hold back because a new comer might read something he doesn't know.

The site has spoiler tags, it's just common courtesy to use them, and it's ridiculously easy to use as well. Like with everything else, there's of course going to be those that don't know how to be empathetic, but most people on here are thankfully not like that.

Also this isn't even the section to really discuss films. That's technically reserved for the movie section. This s to.discuss the BD release of a movie, rather than really delve into discussing your favorite film.

I'll pay whatever bullshit price Scream Factory is charging on day 1 for this gem.

8mm is one of the few movies that genuinely creeped me out and disturbed me, although I don't have many boundaries.

It's not something that I'll revisit for fun on a frequent basis, like, for instance, The Thing, but I might grab this edition for the occasional twisted trip down memory lane.

and yet without fail there is more than a little movie discussion. if it was just "oh look a blu-ray is being released, yay" then there would be very little discussion on most titles. gee i hope it looks good etc only goes so far.

I have to give Scream credit for listening to it's customer base over the past years as they seem to be releasing a lot of titles that people have been asking for for quite a while. Titles like Session 9, 8mm, and Screamers to name a few.

This is good news but I have the Aussie BD so I'll have to consider dipping again on it. I would like the Nic Cage flick Trapped In Paradise to get a Blu-ray release because for me the film is so much fun tons of replay value. Red Rock West also has tons of replay value and no Blu-ray just the German BD which is Region B. Bringing Out The Dead and The Weather Man would be nice to have on BD as well. The more Nic Cage films that come on Blu-ray the better imo whether you like them or hate them.

Hoping Shout Factory can get Trapped In Paradise, Airheads, Volcano and Stuck On You from Starz/Anchor Bay.

I wonder if there is an uncut version they might release. It always felt like it just needed a bit more and that Joel Schumacher was holding back. I was hoping it was just because it was a theatrical cut.

I always ever since I saw it in the theater felt slightly disappointed in the movie as it always felt like it something better was under the surface that would really have come out if david Fincher had directed it instead. I think he could have unlocked the story's potential.

The age of the movie doesn't matter. There are people who haven't seen it (me included).

It's not like 8MM is an inescapable classic like Planet of the Apes, Psycho or Romeo & Juliet whose ending/reveal/twist/whatever is widely ingrained in popular culture.

Yet you chose to post in the thread about it, there’s bound to be spoilers, now who is the illogical one, oops.

You are correct, however, there really wasn't anything spoiled. There is more material spoiled in the film's trailer than in what was being discussed.

The only thing really “spoiled” were the writers original intentions for the movie & it’s ending. No actual major plot points were given away of the release.
