Agreed. This blind hatred of "all things M$" or "Bill Gates" just comes across as envy. Every big company has faults, and every product its pitfalls. But they have done some good, and certainly deserve credit for advancing technology by leaps and bounds over the last 20 years (altho this is sometimes accomplished by showing the world what NOT to do).

Gates is a filthy-rich geek who is more of a spokesman than a director. More power to him. He isn't the harbinger of death. He is barely aware of what every branch of that company does... they have a million execs, hundreds of projects, and the left hand is seldom aware of the right. And the work he does with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation brings him up a lot higher on the karmic wheel than many of these "haters".

Sorry if you don't agree, but do some soul searching... it's not like Bill Gates killed your puppy or something. Microsoft didn't cause the Holocaust. I'm a diehard Mac user and avoid Windoze when I can, but live and let live. You'll be much happier.

I liked M$, before this FW got started.
Now, I despise them.
Will not buy their products (unless there is no substitute) now.

I don't buy ANY Dvds from Paramuck or Universal.

Tosh!tya?
They have always made crap anyway.
Quick, name a great Dvd player they have made!

As much as I hate Microsoft, i buy only limited items from them. Life is too short to hate someone/company. I would like to enjoy life before my day comes...

That why I haven't bought Vista. I'll stay with XP Pro for other 2-3 years.

Hate to say it, but I bought a few Microsoft games, Fable, and the MechCommander series weren't bad. Other then that, haven't found very many microsoft products that are must own products. Everything they make seems to be a rip off of something that was a break through "innovation", and a newer version better then microsofts will be right around the corner anyway.

Boycotting blindly is not the right thing to do. Every product should be evaluated by its own merit and choices made accordingly.

That being said, customers should not accept being forced into a product due to monopoly and underhanded anti-competition tactics. In that regard, Microsoft has a very tarnished record that continues to this day.

I've been using Microsoft products for over 20 years (from early DOS to Windows) and I still do for work. At home, I switched to Macs last year and it is the best computer related choice I made in the last few years. To go back to my initial statement, when comparing MacOS and Windows objectively, Windows is not the best product to use.

So whenever Microsoft comes up with a new OS, a new music player, a new game system, a new software suite, a new anything: do yourself a favor and do your research and try the alternatives, don't just read about it. Then make a truly educated choice.

That's just as bad as those HD DVD fanatics who boycotted Fox, Disney, etc.

The whole reason for HDM is for the movies. I don't care which company makes the movie, I will enjoy them no matter what.

I do use Windows at home and at work along with Office.

I do use Firefox at home.
If Apple would ever realize that they are really a software company and release leopard to everyone, they would get my money and put a serious dent in MS.
Thing people forget is that Jobs and Gates are buddies so that will never happen.

I'm a Linux person. Yeah, still use windows at times -- some things that are natively windows work better under windows and, then there's the fact that my classes and job is windows-centric (though, I see on the syllabus that we will be spending some time in Linux...).

So, my main laptop has Ubuntu installed. Haven't yet tried running Blu-Ray under linux yet... must do that asap.

I use a Edubuntu OS running on two monitors and windows running on one at work.

I agree, and I think the problem is Apple wants to do the same thing that MS wants to do: Control the market completely.

I'm always amused by the people who hate microsoft because they're a big corporation, corrupt, and only care about money. And the best one of all, is that they're trying to be an evil "Monopoly". Well...duh. Show me any major corporation in the world who doesn't want to make money, or who operates on the co-op model.

The other thing that cracks me up, is the people who flock to Apple because of a fear of MS trying to be a monopoly and due to unfair business practices. Why can't I buy a Dell with OSX? Oh yeah...it's a fully proprietary operating system designed and built to run only on Apple produced hardware - despite being based on Unix (FreeBSD).

What it comes down to is you buy what you want, and enjoy it. Apple and Micorosft are not religions; Bill Gates is not the Anti-Christ and Steve Jobs is not the Messiah.

That's why this format war was so friggin lame to begin with, people are trying to give meaning to their lives by 'choosing a side', like thier spending habits come with some divine purpose.

Every company has pro's, every company has con's. Not every item produced works for every person who is a potential customer.

Bill Gates owns a sizable share of Apple so boycotting won't work concerning him. He should just say, " I wanted Hd-DVD and my software HDi to be the next format, it didn't work but I tried!"

Default Boycot what ever

Does that mean you will stop using your computer that is most likely run by a Microsoft OS or stop going to work since almost ever company uses MS products. Dislike you may, not use their products I don't think so.
