Highly recommended
Margot, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, feels out of her element from the start as she joins her date, an obsessive foodie played by Nicholas Hoult, to board a yacht that will take them to Hawthorn, a coastal island restaurant where the upscale dinner costs $1,250 per person. Along with 10 other guests, the couple is introduced to their host, Julian Slowik, a celebrity chef played by Ralph Fiennes, and promised an immersive experience that combines meticulous molecular gastronomy with high concept. The unveiling of each meal course, however, brings unexpectedly diabolical unpleasantries to the table. The 2022 horror satire, The Menu, directed by Mark Mylod, offers a no-holds-barred skewering of elitist culture, with Taylor-Joy's lead functioning as the bewildered audience perspective while we are introduced to a myriad of gratingly pretentious characters. Fiennes, who has always excelled at maintaining an air of menacing deliberateness, seems born to play the role of the chef, whose self-important mannerisms guide us into a world where anything is possible. John Leguizamo, as a has-been actor who is trying to ingratiate his way into a new line of work as a reality show personality, delivers one of the best performances of his career. Janet McTeer is perfect as a snobby restaurant critic who is willfully oblivious to the turmoil inflicted on working people by her reviews. Rob Yang, Arturo Castro, and Mark St. Cyr lend additional tension to the proceedings as obnoxious dude-bro finance professionals whom viewers will love to hate. Hong Chau is wondrously eerie as the maître d’ who delivers curt responses to daft questions. To reveal anything else about the plot of The Menu would be a disservice, but I will say that I am impressed by several narrative turns that keep viewers in suspense, eager to find out how much worse the scenario will become for the unwitting diners. The final outcome leaves me somewhat unsatisfied and still hungry for more, but everything leading up to that point is delicious enough to keep me from sending the dish back. Always look forward to your reviews. If you're not on someone's payroll, you should be.

I had an opportunity to catch this earlier than the weekend, so I went for it. Orndorf was spot on in his rating, I'm tempted to give it a perfect 10 myself, but will need to allow my mind to... marinate on it to be sure.
Taylor-Joy and Fiennes are in top form (when are they not?), but Nicholas Hoult deserves highlighting as a foodie who twists himself into a pretzel to show reverence for this once-in-a-lifetime dining experience, even when events go a bit haywire. For the person who asked about this film's violence, I'd say the violence acts are more shocking than gory. I can see certain scenes upsetting sensitive people. Regarding the [Show spoiler] I think people with an interest in [Show spoiler] might enjoy this film.

This was every bit as delicious as it's been hyped up to be. Fiennes and Anya, as one can expect, brought their A game. Whole cast did, really. Suspenseful, anxiety-inducing, and oddly enough in the midst of it all, humorous as hell. The kind of crowd pleasing awards season film that any moviegoer would be dying to eat up. One of 2022's best.
