Why does it have to be a comedy actress? Let's see a more "serious" one cut loose for a bit instead of being so prim and proper.

The latter, without question. If they do go back to the source material, I'll be surprised.

It could still be comedic and violent. But I feel like these days it’ll be compared unfavorably to Deadpool.

There's enough to differentiate it from Deadpool, because while Deadpool got a little dark at times, it was still largely a bloody, comical superhero romp.

The Mask, if done close to the source comics, would be almost like a horror movie at times.

That’s very true and I hope one day they pull off a proper adaptation like they were originally planning back in the day. I just meant if they up the humor and keep it bloody. If they keep the humor dark there will be no issue.

But either way I doubt it’ll be happening in that way. It’ll be very much like the original film.

I would have loved to see a trilogy with Jim in the 90s, but he turned down a return for the sequel.

A female led reboot?

I think a sequel with Jim returning and getting the Mask again would be awesome. 25 years later with Jim taking on the more comic accurate role. Dark and twisted.

Doesn't need to be rebooted since the mask can show up anywhere for anyone to find... but can we at least get a more true to source film before going this route IF they're just gonna reboot it?

Yep, just make it rated R and bloody as hell - you can still keep it hilarious Deadpool style.

At least we know this can't be any worse than Son of the Mask.

Damnit! Was hoping this was going to be an all female reboot of Mask (1985) until I clicked on the link.

Trying to make something worse than Son of the Mask is as much of a tall order as making a RoboCop movie worse than RoboCop 3.

The youngsters don't know shit about the Mask comic book stuff. It was brutal, bloody, and funny, and was nothing like Deadpool. Let's stop with that dumb comparison that has nothing to do with this property.

Nothing against reboots -- when they're done right and for a reason. Nobody asked for this. How about the studio gives us five ORIGINAL movies to look forward to and then they reboot past shit?

The positive side of this could be the potential release of The Mask in UHD.
