He got out back in 2014, but not only is he in the midst of a lawsuit but he is also bankrupt. He did a short film called "The Red Dot" as a promo for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands. He also had written a sequel to the Thomas Crown Affair while in jail. Personally, I want him to re-tackle Last Action Hero.

McTiernan is currently preparing a sci-fi film starring Uma Thurman called Tau Ceti 4. There's a thread here in case anyone's interested.

John Carpenter

Very good in the beginning of his career, but then...

Last movie of him that I liked was Big trouble in little China.

Steven Spielberg still makes very competent and pretty films, but I just don't care for them at all.

Munich from 2005 was the last time he dappled into great source material for me. Everything he's directed since is just meh, one way or the other.

His last theatrical masterpiece was In the Mouth of Madness. His Masters of Horror episode Cigarette Burns is great, too.

I found Bridge of Spies a welcome return to his Munich-level of film-making. Only thing that kinda let it down was
[Show spoiler]not ending at the Bridge. The train scene was the same old pure sentimentality that he often gets criticised for, it didn't really bother me but it was very heavy-handed and ultimately unneeded.

John Dahl. He's still in the biz doing TV, but hasn't made a film in over a decade. He hasn't made a great one since the 90s.

Steven Spielberg; Minority Report (2002) was the last great movie of his I saw in the theatre, mabey a pass for Bridge of Spies, but so much mediocre entries; Ready Player One, The BFG & Tintin (can't beat the source material), The Post (made for TV), Lincoln & War Horse (borefests), The Terminal & Catch Me if You Can (Forgettable fluff), Crystal Skull (nuff said).

Um. Paul W S Anderson hasn't made a decent film in 20 years. Loved Mortal Kombat (1995) and Event Horizon is still a horror classic. Soldier should have been directed by Ridley Scott, but after that, he's been on Planet Zombie with his crap Resident Evil films...

AvP is the worst Alien film to grace any format since the dawn of VHS. I do have Deathrace, but it was a present and has the second and third films in the box. The problem was that 'Soldier' cost $60m to make and made back $15m. I went straight to video in many countries and the next film Anderson made was a tv movie called 'The Sight'...

You obviously haven't seen AvP: Requiem. Mind you, with the pitch black photography rendering it the world's most expensive radio play, nobody actually could see AvP: Requiem...

Miami Vice, Public Enemies, Blackhat....all not as good as early Mann. Just my opinion.

And, yes, his past three films, "Black Book", "Tricked", and "Elle" are very good.

I felt he HAD fallen off after his Hollywood career ended, and we heard nothing from him for pretty much a decade. But I feel he's come back, since.
