And in case anyone sez "so I suppose you think all people of Asian descent look alike?" I'll add that it was the glasses that sealed the deal

Most of what FOMO says in this video is not correct.

Business Insiders guide to CES 2020 wasn’t particularly kind to Panasonic

Quote:
It's difficult to pin down exactly what to expect from this company during CES. Once known for its TVs, in years past, the company has put out super-advanced electric toothbrushes, excellent digital cameras, and even sharp small kitchen appliances. So, what the company will have to show off in 2020 is anyone's guess. Here's to hoping for a state-of-the-art water flosser.

"Sony's model numbers for 2020 have leaked. Amongst them is the Z8H (ZH8) range in 75 and 85 inches, which could be a more affordable range of 8K TVs. The leak also reveals new A9H (AH9) and A8H (AH8) OLED models."

Yeah, I saw that earlier.

I do find it interesting how they've introduced a Z8 range in addition to Z9. And there being both a X900H and X950H is intriguing, as well. There must be some kind of differences there to make having both worthwhile, so I'm wondering what the X950H will offer over the X900H.

What's strange to me is that, according to this, there's a 49" X950H but no sign of a 49" X900H. Usually it's the lower range that gets one smaller size. For example, the X900E came in 49" while the step-up X930E only went down to 55", and that is true for the current X900F and X950G as well.

There's always that slight glimmer in my eye over how the new models will perform, though I'm not expecting anything really exciting outside of the Z line from Sony at this point.

I expect incremental improvements, but hell, even just that is enough for them to have my interest.

Part of me is kind of worried that these will be damn near the exact same TVs already on the market except with HDMI 2.1 added, though.

More OLEDs and less LCD crap would be nice. Would also be awesome for Panasonic to re-enter the U.S. market and bring over their OLEDs. Greed of wanting $300 75” TVs is driving the LCD market. How I wish if would go away.

I'm really curious if Filmmaker Mode will be an industry standard across the board for all brands/models regardless of technology and if 2020 models will include the feature.

I think it's prettty obvious by now Sony is not planning on ever releasing a worthy follow up to the Z9D anymore. LCD was at its peak in 2016 when that one was released. All Z9D owners worldwide should consider themselves extremely lucky and honered for owning the best overall 4K/HDR TV made to date. Talk about getting true value for your money...

There is not one TV out there at the moment which I would consider worthy of replacing either of my Z9Ds, so I guess I'm "stuck" with them for a couple of more years until Sony releases their first MicroLED (or perhaps MiniLED). Not necessarily a bad thing, as I will be able to save more money for when the moment arrives.

ZD9 is a mid to lower end LCD TV. There are literally hundreds of TVs that are significantly better. For starters, every single OLED and Plasma ever made. And hundreds of CRTs, including tons from Sony itself.

One thing I hope is that with 8K displays getting more established, at least in the flagship ranges, we'll start to see some more heavy emphasis on everything else that matters on these displays, i.e. contrast, peak brightness, color gamut etc. If we could get an end to these resolution races for at least a decade, that'd be great.

I love your posts, man. I always read each one at least three times.

Did you know I begged one of the mods to undo your most recent ban?

I must literally be the only person in this forum’s history to be banned multiple times for solely talking about the movies I love and technology I use. While hundreds of people carry on with trolling and using personal attacks all day every day. Go figure.

In all honesty, when it comes to certain things (the Disney Star Wars sequels for example), I fully agree with you 100%. Those moments are rare, but they do occur and I'm not ashamed to thank your posts in question for that.

Samsung Teases New AI-Based Product Called Neon; Could it Replace Bixby?

Quote:
The product is being developed by Samsung Technology & Advanced Research Labs, an independent unit of Samsung Electronics. Neon can reportedly speak, recognize, and think at a human level, or at least aim to.

Perhaps you'll be able to argue with your smartphone or TV to further immerse you into their environment while everything its gathers is marketed to others elsewhere.

Can’t imagine what rational person would want this, HAL9000 wouldn’t be that far off.

TCL will challenge OLED dominance at CES 2020 with its new Mini-LED TVs - TechRadar

Quote:
The Shenzhen-based TV manufacturer announced that it’s bringing its latest crop of Mini-LED TVs to the show and they could pose a real threat to LG’s OLED dominance.

Mini-LED TVs, for those who missed their debut a few years ago, use smaller LEDs that allow for more precise control over the TV’s backlight. While they don’t offer pixel-by-pixel brightness control the same way OLED does, Mini-LED TVs can get much brighter than OLED - and that will make a world of difference when it comes to displaying HDR content.

Expect to see a number of new models announced during TCL’s keynote that falls on Monday, January 6 at 12 p.m. PST and, for those going to Vegas for CES, at the company’s booth in Central Hall.
Good luck with that.

Mini-LED is just another marketing term in order to hide the fact that they’re using garbage LCD technology. LG will wipe the floor with them.
