Haven't been keeping up with disc releases, but was thinking about Picard this morning and typed it in. Floored with the tech available, and the dedication the directors, writers, and crew put in... that there isn't a 4K release planned. Can I live with a Blu-ray that has 5.1 audio? Sure. Will I buy it on disc? Nah.
If they aren't going to bother with 4K and Atmos, why would I waste my time with physical media? I buy the discs for better, reliable quality. Very disappointed, but then I'm disappointed a lot with things like this. Oh well. |

^ To be sure, there's very, very little television getting physical 4K releases right now, so Picard is really part of the rule, here, not the exception. It's highly doubtful that any of these new CBS Trek-shows will be receiving the 4K treatment any time in the immediate (or even distant) future, but just to get an actual physical 2K release in this day and age is becoming more and more something of a triumph, and needs to be supported if at all possible.

For the goal is a permanent hard copy, since the show is tied to a subscription service. Also some nice commentaries hopefully. I get that for some it's all about the quality difference though, so fair enough. Still... I worry that if most take your stance, we'll stop seeing Trek on disc at all.

The very fact that Home Electronics is the only reason home media on disc exist in the first place. If you read this article regarding the No Show of disc players at this years CES 2020. https://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.ph...&id=1579085840 It's not so hard to see that once manufactures quit making hardware to spin movies at home... the ultimate result will be movie studios will have no reason to release home media in physical form. The only saving grace will be the PS5 and XBOX next gen. Both have announce new UHD disc drives and unfortunately for the movie market these will appeal to a niche market of consumers. To reduce cost of their machines both Sony and Microsoft are releasing a Digital only version of these consoles. It will be only a matter of time when the disc drive version will be discontinued and with that the last of physical media will be announced. I give it to 2023 and not a single movie from any studio will be released in physical disc, No GAME or MOVIE will be produced. |

oh... I came on here before my last rant.. to find out one thing.... without spoilers, can someone please tell me if this series ended at Season 1 or will their be more to come.
I hate studios, that start something incredible then because of reasons such as subscription decline they cancel shows. I don't want to pay for CBS all access , and i sure don't want to spend money on cliff hanger endings. So , did this show end or will there be more ? |
