It matches better in terms of color design, yes.
For the new PS4 games ordered (saving 20+ dollars) that will include free PS5 upgrades, I can always just cut out a narrow piece of paper and write PS5 in black ink on the top left and then insert that into the game case if I want to distinguish those two games from my PS4 library of disc games. For $20 savings, I feel it's not a big deal to download the PS5 upgrades to my PS5 and then just never remove them. I've had games stored on my PS3 since 2010 without any issues (other than that one Sony latest update that almost completely destroyed/wiped out my PS3 by looping it to the failed update screen endlessly, total luck that I got it to finally work). After it finally loaded the update, everything was working as it was before. All in the name of trying to get it to update to play a newer blu ray disc... But yeah, that's the risk of consoles with digital games stored on them that might have a limited time only offer. I'm sure Watch Dogs Legion and Cyberpunk 2077 will only allow the free PS5 upgrades for a limited time. |

The more I look at the white banner the more I hate it. I'm also tired of the blue cases, and the white banner makes them look even worse, imo. I would have liked to see clear cases again, or even all white cases with a black banner.
It'd also be great if they'd finally go with smaller cases since manuals don't exist anymore and there isn't anything in there beyond a disc and a little voucher. There is no need for them to be as big as the previous gen's cases have been. |

The black cases make sense since they match the standard 4K Blu-ray case color, just as the PS4 (and the PS3 before it) matched the standard blue Blu-ray case. For a ton of consumers, the PS5 will be their first foray into the 4K Blu-ray market. When they see movies in black cases, they will subliminally pick up on the fact that they will play in their PS5.

Their coverart is a mess for sure and i would say the Blue case side by side there has a cohesion to it with a slight differentiation however i think those black UHD style cases for PS5 would be even better to get a clear cut identity whilst keeping the PS4 to PS5 clear.
