I'm looking forward to it really, one of the few games I actually want to get this year (assuming we're lucky enough for it to stick to the earlier of 2023 rather than 24)

It's probably going to lead up to a big reveal, which will be nice. I can't think of many other games (FFXVI and Alone in the Dark notwithstanding) due to be released this year that I'm looking forward to.

I genuinely hope it makes the earlier release date. That teaser trailer was quite intriguing.

Also, perhaps discussion of Remake Intergrade ought to be in the appropriate thread?

I'm going to assume that we might see more about it at Summer Game Fest on Thursday, but I won't hold my breath.

I'm assuming an RDR2 like 2-disc situation, a big data install disc and a play disc. Pretty cool, clearly another massive game like FF16 is looking.

2 PS5 discs…assuming it’ll take advantage of Kraken, that’s a shitload of data.

LOL not me but it might be an interesting way to take this, it does make sense, I mean he did pick her up in the original game and just toss her with the sword through her stomach

Looks like it might end at the end of the first disc of the original game unless I’m misremembering. So this install size will be massive. And it also looks like we’re not finishing this trilogy up during the lifespan of the PS5. I’d said as much when the first part came out jokingly but it looks more realistic at this point.

They goto the North crater 2x, the first time Sephiroth joins with all his clones and Diamond Weapon gets released End of Disc 1. Either way this looks to be massive as you said, the 3rd disc was not much exploration. It started at the North Crater post Midgar blowing up Diamond Weapon with the Mako Gun from Junon End of Disc 2.

Visually, it looks great, and the combat appears to be same as VIIR (action is not my preferred style but it was fun). The one thing I was most interested in learning was if this game would have an overworld map. It doesn't look like it will have one but maybe it will open up like FF13 did eventually.

VII Remake came out in 2020, Rebirth is releasing four years later. If there's another three or four years between the second and third games, that should be well within the PS5's lifespan. I mean, it feels like this generation is only just now getting started!

It's looking like they're going for large, open areas rather than a world map, which is what I expected. The world maps of the first nine games were more stylized, with the character moving across an undersized representation of the world. That worked beautifully on the NES, SNES and PS1, but maybe wouldn't gel as well with the more realistic and detailed style they're going for here.

And doing the full world map to scale, well... obviously, that would be impossible.

You are right. This generation will likely last several years longer than planned because of the pandemic causing the generation to not truly start until this year (even though there have been many really good games already). If this ends with a third game, then it will definitely be on the PS5. The joke back when Remake first came out was good, but it's unlikely to actually come true.

As for the trailer, I thought it was fantastic. This was already my most anticipated game of 2024 even without a trailer, but I still thought it was really well done regardless. I knew there was basically no chance this was coming out this year even when it was first revealed many months ago.

I'd figured March '24 back when they announced the vague release window so I'm more than fine with "early 2024".

The trailer was great. It looks expansive, lush, and pretty much everything I was hoping this game would be given its vast wider world over the previous game/setting.

In for the twin-pack to finally get a physical copy of Intergrade.

Hmm, assumed the twin-pack was physical but the above video says that it is digital only. Not cool.
