Not only is this a book, but a flat box. Zero understanding of disc media storage. Fire the stupid hipsters with their fine art degrees.

Yeah, it looks great. And is similar to Godzilla, Varda, and Bergman. Since paper sleeves don’t scratch discs, it’s a nice shelf space saver.

I would argue (hope) just the opposite. The more film fans discover the joy of exploring the body of work of great filmmakers, the more open people will become to those who are critically lauded, but who might be less 'household names' - male or female.

I love that Criterion have been upping their game in this area, and hope they continue to do so. So often a film-maker's less known works may be as good as - or even better than - those that happened to garner all the attention.

I already have some of his films (La Dolce Vita, , and Roma), but will very likely upgrade to this beautiful set. I'm so so so excited to finally get Nights of Cabiria on Blu-ray too.

I hope their next boxset is a Briefcase-style lockbox with a slipcover made of satin and is to be opened with a lock, the discs housed in individual lined sleeve booklets bespoke with faux-leather binding that has to be removed in order to retrieve the disc. Each one has part of the booklet printed on it and the individual must line them up in different configurations to read it all. Talk about putting that fine art degree to good use!

I am 100% in for this! Far more excited for everything this set is, than what it isn’t. Finally getting La Strada, Nights of Cabiria, I Vitelloni, Juliet of the Spirits, The White Sheik ...c’mon, nuff said.

I also just asked Kino Insider, he said no to Ginger and Fred. Guess we just have to hope for a Warner Archive release

Outstanding news.

Thankfully I only own one Fellini film now.

Yeah man. And not just all those but 4K remasters for those and their earlier releases like and Amarcord (most likely).

So if 11 of the 14 are new restorations, Do we know which 3 aren’t new transfers yet? Can’t find specific info on their website

Have you tried inspecting a disc under a bright light?

Satyricon and La dolce vita are already from 4K restorations. So that leaves one unaccounted for.

This.
These sets are brilliant.
They're easy ways to get plenty of work either from phenomenal filmmakers or discovering a series of films. Pricey, sure. But it's great to just dive deep into superb cinema and learn a lot.

I could see a 17-year old with time on their hands getting the Fellini set cause people online say 8 1/2 is an important film. Then they look up more about Criterion and discover the Varda set.
Then they're doomed from then on.

I wonder if it’s Roma since that’s the most recent release?

Watching America during the COVID-19 pandemic is sort of like watching the party at the end of La Dolce Vita.

If that doesn't sell this set on newcomers, then nothing will.

For those worried about storage, I was thinking of throwing together a 4-disc, 4-case custom artwork set for the 22mm Scanavo cases used for Godzilla and Gamera sets.

These are rough WIPs. If there's any interest in these, I'll press forward.
