For me it feels like it, I am afraid to say. I don't want to bash PSVR, I had fun with it, especially the ones you mentioned. Astrobot and Moss. Those used it in a more creative way though. The first person stuff like Walking Dead, makes me feel like playing Ps1 Tomb Raider. Maybe not so much the graphics themself, but viewed through the blurry lenses of the PSVR, that's the level of ugliness it has for me. I have replayed some PSX games last year, so I didn't just pull that comparision out of my ass, even if it is technically not accurate.
First person PSVR graphics are horrendous (just my opinion of course) - and I DO want to like it. I had PSVR for two years but could never get over it. Only non first-person games like Moss, Gentle Giant etc. gave me any enjoyment. |

To add to that:
I actually wished somebody had warned me with comparisons like that, cause I probably would have skipped this version of VR and waited for the technical aspects to improve. When I first got the PSVR, I actually returned it to Amazon after a day cause I thought there is NO WAY it is supposed to look like that. I checked if I maybe forgot to remove protective stickers or something. Unfortunately, that were and are the graphics. Like I said, the graphics might be okay on their own (like when you look at them on the home screen), but the low resolution blurry mess that you get from the PSVR glasses (like try reading a text that is a few meters in the distance) kills all the fun for a lot of games. So even if my comparison is hyperbole - if it makes people check that thing out before committing to buy, I feel I am doing them a favor ![]() If you haven't gotten into VR yet and think about buying PSVR - rent that thing first or try it out in a shop!!! |

First person VR is absolutely not horrendous. Far from it. Hyperbole again. I give you Farpoint, I give you Blood And Truth, I give you Sairento, I give you Budget Cuts, I give you RE, I give you The Persistance, I could go on and on. You are making blanket statements that are simply untrue.

Yeah I wouldn’t call it horrendous. VR tech is still in the early stages and of course is still a long ways for having the fidelity of flat games on a nice TV. Some people love the immersion and don’t care, others love top level graphics and won’t like VR until the graphics and resolution are much closer to AAA traditional games. To each their own and not worth arguing IMO.

In how disappointed one might be to compare PSVR's RE7 to PS1 graphics, that seems harsh but would match the level of disappointment they felt. In reality, while the graphics are PS4 level, further back in the view, there is a terrible amount of aliasing going on, where you get these wavy, blocky lines that aren't smooth at all in a game like RE7 or Xing (on a regular PS4).
Now those very same graphics on a PSVR on a PS5 might be enhanced enough to amp up the resolution of those first person games, to smooth out those jagged lines and edges and make it look awesome. That's my only complaint about those games graphically, which is more of a technical limit of their games needing to run at 60 fps and having first been developed as 2D games without a second camera to worry about. On the other hand, as Steedeel pointed out, there are games that are graphically solid in PSVR, even in the distance, without severe jagged lines as with some games. Astrobot being a good example. It does show some jagged lines further back (up close the lines are super smooth and look like real objects in stereo 3D). But yeah, it'll be very interesting to see if PS5 can amp up the resolution for those two games I mentioned. That would be awesome and I'll test it out on my PS5 in November. Quote:

![]() That said, 2160 x 1440p per eye might potentially or full HD per eye end up being the target. Probably full HD and then down the line more powerful PlayStation hardware can pump better visuals but there's always a performance hit to consider due to what's technically needed in VR gaming to take it up another level and get past some of the issues. If not fully, at least in some capacity. I eagerly do wait for PSVR 2 and hopefully see it also be BC but for the potential prices these days, just like you got a Series S and then a damn 1TB storage expansion for almost the same price, i think i'd just wait it out for a price drop. I'm still more inclined to flatscreen gaming and will do so for quite some time. Especially when optically challenged and needing to adjust per eye lol |

PSVR needs to get rid of the screen door effect. If that can be done with 2K per eye, fine. However, I do think technology has progressed enough mass produce 4K tiny screens relatively cheaply.

The sharpness is perfect for up close objects, it's just further back that the resolution suffers and the jagged edges appear if the game is not optimized with higher resolution. Xing being a prime example on regular PS4, though Dartfrog said it looks much better on PS4 pro PSVR and I believe it. If I get a good chance, I'll hook up all the mess of wires from the PSVR to detach from my PS4 to my PS5. |
