Horror of Dracula no contest.
Closely followed by Dracula (1931).

This is tough because I don’t think any of the Dracula films run away with it. Still, there are a number of really good ones. I’d put Horror of Dracula at the head of my list, followed by Dracula (1979).

My favorite is Bram Stoker's Dracula, but I have seen very few. A video that compared every Dracula ever made actually said the film stuck to the original novel a lot of times. I haven't read the novel but I'd say the biggest difference was the love story probably.

Did you mean it has the greatest costumes any film ever made got, or just any costumes done by Eiko Ishioka?

Does Werner Herzogs Nosferatu count, if so that. 31 is a close second.

Absolutely. It's based on Murnau's film, which was an unofficial adaption of Stoker's novel.

While I like the 1931 and 1992 versions I am still waiting on a more faithful adaptation.

I just thought of another favorite: BLOOD FOR DRACULA (1974), a.k.a. ANDY WARHOL'S DRACULA. Great film starring Udo Kier as the Count.

They way Stoker's novel is written explains why it was so difficult for film-makers to do a straight-up adaptation of it, which is why i'm going with Bram Stoker's Dracula and the BBC Count Dracula with Louis Jourdan.

It wasn't a movie but I absolutely loved the back and forth between Dracula and Van Helsing in the BBC three part series. Loved episode 1 and 2.

If Bela Lugosi had been in the Spanish film, you'd pretty much have a definitive Dracula.

Bram Stoker's Dracula for its unhinged visual creativity.
Coppola was firing on all cylinders with that one,too bad he left Frankenstein.

I tend to enjoy most of the Draculas though,it's my favourite novel

In a way, both, but in this instance, my comments were saying Ishioka's work in "Dracula" is the all time greatest costumes ever made for film.

* incidentally, another Coppola movie would also be in the running, Milena Canonero's work on Sofia's "Marie Antoinette".
