Fidelity In Motion (David M) handled the Second Sight release which is more than enough to settle which release is superior.

I don't doubt that. I might even buy it.

But andreasy969 is talking about Universal's Blu-ray (from 2008), saying "why would anyone pick Shout's disc over Universal's". And there is in fact reason to do so, since it has better picture quality (color scheme is a different matter).

I have Shout's release, though admittedly, still sealed.

I'm a fan of Second Sight's limited editions and their solid full slip boxes, got many of them, so I'll probably double-dip because of the new extras.

I love all the Shout releases I have, but I think I just missed the fact that they even released The Strangers, so I never got it. My Second Sight version will be in my hands tomorrow though, so I'm looking forward to watching it.

Which is your opinion. And since yours is also based on caps only, I'd say yours is worth as much as mine. I would've picked Universal over Shout. I bought Second Sight (which appears to have lower blacks than Shout as well btw.).

It might be my opinion, yes, but the caps-a-holic captures are factual evidence that Shout's PQ is better than Universal's.

The color scheme on the other hand, unless it's approved by the filmmakers or wildly off, you can't say with certainty what's right or wrong. That does indeed come down to taste.

It might not be my opinion, it is. And no, they are not. That's your opinion. You appear to be having problems grasping the difference.

The captures show that Universal's encode has less detail, less grain, and compression artifacts in darker areas, compared to Shout.

I don't know why you keep arguing that I am wrong, but well, I'll give you credit for being persistent.

Probably not a welcomed opinion but I was gifted the dvd years ago and was only prompted to watch it this week on account of this thread. I enjoyed the ride but really there's no substance to this movie. It's just a bunch of stuff happening. No characterisation, motivation, plot. Nothing. Not sure why Second Sight is putting mediocrity on an LE pedestal. If you do like it, it seems like a great edition to have though. Certainly better than Ils (Them) which was equally vapid but made the terrible mistake of misdirecting the audience to think the antagonists were supernatural or otherworldly.

Anyone have an estimate how long base.com usually takes to ship to US? I got this shipped right before they started cancelling. Just curious!

Watched last night. Was ok, very generic and doubt I'll rewatch - agree LE for this one bit of an overkill. Might have to ping onto ebay when the next £1 offer pops up.

Yeah, one of those films I'd class under 'disposable fun'.

Fancy this set, I mean, SS kick arse. But I'm in no rush.

Are there any caps from the Second Sight edition yet? Would like to compare them before picking it up. The fact that David M handled the compression has me intrigued. He did a phenomenal job with Synapse’s 4K disc of Suspiria.

I always thought this film was a loose remake of the French film ils (Them). I'd much rather have the French film.

Just got this in the mail today—I am kind of a super fan of this film and am glad I have the Second Sight disc in addition to the Scream Factory edition; there are completely different interviews on both discs, plus the Second Sight disc has a really nice interview with Liv Tyler (who is as lovely as ever). It's nice to hear that she is proud of this movie. I was kind of bummed when I found out the Scream Factory disc didn't have any input from her, but this release makes up for it.

Following Second Sight's release of Shudder original Host, hopefully they'll do a nice release of Strangers director Bryan Bertino's newest flick The Dark and the Wicked. It's launching on Shudder in the UK this Friday and I highly recommend it.

I own only the Second Sight and compared 2 caps with caps' when I received the disc back then (only 2 because I didn't want to spoil the movie for myself, which I still haven't seen - lagging behind A LOT lately...). Based on what I saw/compared, the Second Sight basically matched the Universal, but with better pq (and I still think the Shout is wrong and much worse). Unfortunately I don't have the caps anymore.
