Well I, for one, don't even considerate it the best sequel. My ranking: 1. Salvation 2. T2 3. Rise is barely watchable 4. Genisys 5. Dark Fate couldn't have been worse. |

By the way, those are the main "fighters" and "opponents" we got in the franchise:
PROTECTORS 1- Kyle Reese 2- T-800 "Uncle Bob" 3- Sarah Connor 4- T-850 5- Cameron Phillips 6- Derek Reese 7- Marcus Wright 8- Guardian/Pops 9- Grace 10- T-800 "Carl" HUNTERS 1- T-800 2- T-1000 3- T-X/Terminatrix 4- T-888/Cromartie 5- T-1000 Version 2 6- John Connor/T-3000 7- Rev-9 Last edited by UniSol GR77; 10-10-2020 at 12:12 AM. |

There aren't any Terminator films after Terminator 2: Judgment Day?

1) Terminator: Genysis (wasn’t as great as the OGs, but I actually enjoyed it...)
2) Terminator: Dark Fate 3) Terminator 3 4) Terminator: Salvation None of them lived up to the original two in my opinion though. |

It didn't deserve to be; i'm constantly amazed at how well Genisys did at the box office, even though the film is as turgid as hell and a total narrative dog's dinner. Sure, i understand that people were hurtin' with the death of John Connor in Dark Fate, and Arnold's T800 was crowbarred into the action, but aside from that i have no problems with it. I also went back recently and re-watched Salvation and enjoyed it a heck of a lot more than i did at the cinema. that film definitely deserved a sequel, perhaps with another director taking it forward. T1 and T2? Beyond reproach.

1. Salvation I appreciate the effort to do something different and love the cast. Just wish they went with the original ending and gave us that sequel McG teased at.
2. Rise of the Machines Too familiar but not as stupid or nonsensical as the last two, failed in wanting to be T2 but without any of the punch. 3. Dark Fate A valiant effort to change things up but all they succeeded in doing was basically remake T2 with a girl in the place of a boy. 4. Genysis Oh boy, not only does the twist negate the antagonist's own motive but by having Sarah and Kyle timejump Kyle himself would likely not exist to timejump to begin with. |

Dark Fate was the only flop of the entire franchise, and that burns me, because it was a very good sci-fi action movie and an entertaining Terminator movie to begin with. Quote:
Cromartie is a T-888. Cameron Phillips is a T-900. Catherine Weaver is a T-1001, not a T-888. |

The financial situation with Terminator: Salvation was rather convoluted in the best of terms, with the film making a solid profit after all finances were accounted for, but complications outside of that forced the rights holders to bail out on the franchise. Damn shame, as there was most definitely a huge potential to complete the trilogy so that the Terminator story would be finished as a 5 film sequence, if they chose to ignore T3.

Surprisingly enough, Terminator Salvation actually made more worldwide than Star Trek, released the same summer. It was a solid enough movie. I would have welcomed a sequel.
