Blu-ray won't be bootlegged until it becomes mainstream. People who buy blu-ray buy it for the picture and audio quality. If you don't care about quality just buy dvd's or if the dvd is expensive then buy the bootleg dvd.

hate to say it for those that dont realize yet, but Blu bootlegs (well rips for dl) have been in full swing for a long while now and yes they're the full 1080p
i think bootlegging goes without saying for any format, it will always be there. however i do not think that its a real detriment to any format.. look at how long every format has been around and their demises cannot be attributed to bootlegging in its entirety, bootlegging is more of an extenuating cause to the demise of formats since there is only a small percentage of people who accquire bootlegs and an even smaller number who crave just bootlegs. We saw it being a major influence to the music industry only because the record labels were charging ridiculous amounts of money for cds as well as MP3s were more of a new "product" that was desired rather then the fact that the music was free to download (hence the success of legal downloads) Last edited by X400; 08-19-2008 at 12:59 AM. |

I guess you can ask that question to the several million people who have purchased bootleg copies or worse yet just got it for free. Please get back to me to what answer they gave you. And yea the just cuz others do it means it still not right crap wears very thin already. From the entertainment industries standpoint they did not properly protect themselves from the new tech thats out there. Lawsuits only go so far - joke warnings on movies are a joke. This is business and like any business if its open/vunerable to exploitaton then it will be exposed until the hole is closed. Its not as black and white as most people are lead to believe. |

Hmmm I would have to disagree with the small percentage part of boot leggers. As Ive stated in my other post - Piracy is bad ! so bad that its a billion dollar "Underground" economy. It has a significant number of followers to be a billion dollar thing. This pirate thing is only illigal because the movie industry has not figured out how to profit from it yet. Like you said legal downloads became the evolution from Napster. Something will surface with movies as well.... |

Again oversimplistic reasoning / lack of logic - its like you want to convince some 6yrd old reading your "just isnt worth goin to jail thing" OK so a federal jail cell is a bit cramped for you ? please stop flattering yourself - you are not bin laden burning DVD copies to fund your moral cause. FACT: flea markets are rampet with vendors selling racks and racks of pirateware. How more open and dishonest is that? Go to chinatown sometime and there one will find mom and pop stores that sell junk toys to junk watches to ripped DVDs of CHinese Kung-FU to you guessed it first run movies from the weekend past. Where are the police ? hell they are there purchasing the BATMAN TDK bootleg. Its all business tied to the convienace of copywrite laws. When the studios provide monitary fees, the police will act by confiscating and fining HARD. But that is the cost of doing business - that is actually factored in. These vendors expect to be fined and raided from time to time. Just like a brothel, the money they get from selling ripped movies is staggaring - inspite of the SHITTY P.Q. and Audio. Honestly why would cops waste their time on bottleggers when they should be going after hardcore crime. |

As somebody who actually produces something, I never pirate something. Turn around is fair play, if I don't want what I produce to be stolen, why would I steal from others? While I don't earn money for what I produce, there is still the time and effort invested in it, and I don't want to see some *censored* steal it and claim it is their work, or worse, profit off of something I did.

I don't think that is the issue. I think it is inevitable that blank BDs will be used for bootlegging HD-DVDs or other HD source material, even if pre-recorded BDs are hard to crack.

From a legal point of view you are absolutely right. Now from a moral point of view in my humble opinion everyone has the right to self defense of one's own interests so big companies have the right to use the law to defend their properties but also individuals have the right to defend their interests. Remember that if they can they won't hesitate to send you to jail if they find you with even the smallest thing as an illegal mp3 on your hard drive. they won't think it twice, they won't say: removing the freedom of a human being just for a download might be a little disproportionate in other words they will defend their interests and their interests ONLY. Hence my claim to a right for anyone of us to defend ours. Now having said that I personally don't like bootlegs, if I pay I'd rather pay for the original well made product and when it comes to Blurays I love my original Blurays. I would not exchange my original Pixar Bluray movies for any bootleg and no one that loves quality would for that matter. On an offtopic issue: that Sendmorebrains guy is rather rude for my taste |

I unknowingly bought a bootleg DVD....from some slimeball off of EBay...I reported him right away...they refunded my money and said to send the movie back..."hell no!" I replied back...he was gone from EBay within the week.
It really is amazing how depending on where our members live shows how they differ on their opinion. Many of our members from oversees are much more leinant on this sort of thing, apparently. |
