I've seen it 7 times and I'm still hoping it returns to my theater after hopefully winning a Globe/Oscar nominations.

Will definitely buy it day 1. I'm so annoyed that Best Buy doesn't have a pre-order up though. I have a $5 certificate that expires Saturday and I wish I could have used it towards this. Fingers crossed they're planning a steelbook or something so that's why it's not up for pre-order.

I keep hearing from people that this movie is an anti-men propaganda piece that paints men, in general, as being potential rapists and subtly evil. That concerns me but I want to see it to judge for myself. I also really like Carey Mulligan as an actress so I'm eager to see this film.

I don’t understand how a movie’s messaging could be interpreted like that just because it is about bad men. It obviously doesn’t mean “all men are evil”.

As a man, I loved the film personally but I will say, it might've been a wise choice to include one "failed" experiment of hers, where she
[Show spoiler]is taken home by a guy and he genuinely just wants to help her and doesn't try to date rape her.
It would've added a nice bit of contrast and ironic humor to the film's existing dark comedic tone.

[Show spoiler]She deliberately went after men that acted like douchebags, that wouldn’t have made sense.

My bad, it's been a while since I've seen it so you are probably right about that. I just got the impression that she went to all the bars in the city and didn't discriminate about her "prey."

This is a case of "dont shoot the messenger" but I've read online articles from supposed feminists who think the movie portrays men with a highly broad stroke except for the love interest. The movie has sparked this kind of discussion is all I'm saying.

You do get
[Show spoiler]the Alfred Molina character, who you're kind of expecting to be this huge sleazeball but surprisingly turns out to be an unexpected ally.

The movie is a cross between a comedy and a revenge film [Peppermint]. Dark dark dark black humor which I loved!

The ending was awesome.

The McLovin scene really made me laugh.

Carey was just so delightfully psychotic.

She was also excellent in The Dig.

I forgot to mention before, what absolutely uninspired cover art. If I knew nothing about the film, the cover would not tempt me to pick up the movie case and see what it's about. The already uninspired temp art using the same still made it more clear Cassie was at the bar than the final version.

Sorry to be that guy, but I just to need to quickly rant about the cover art.

Now, I'm not saying that the film itself isn't the most important thing, because it is, but at the same time when I plunk down my money these days for a physical object, I do enjoy things that look good on my shelf.

For a film THIS FREAKING GOOD, it is one of the worst pieces of key art I've seen, truly does not give a single hint of the subversive nature of the film or its black as night dark comedy. Even the title font is uninspiring. I just can't understand why anyone would think this would sell a movie, ANY movie really, but especially one with such an assured voice and sense of style.

I'll probably just wait for a 4K release, hopefully someone else can do it with a little more care. Rant over, thanks for letting me vent!

In my experience, people who "don't worry about trigger warnings" are exclusively people who have never been subjected to the kinds of traumatic life events that would lead them to gain any sort of benefit from trigger warnings. If that's you, then bluntly, they're not *for* you. Congrats.

If someone has been unfortunate enough to have been a victim of some sort of abuse/violence and it's left a permanent effect on their mental health, as trauma generally does, one tends to find that there is a very strong justification for them wanting things to have content/trigger warnings. If you know to expect to have to deal with an unpleasant theme or event that relates to an unpleasant thing you went through in your own life, you get to choose whether to prepare yourself for that and go ahead with watching it or decide not to risk the psychological response that you might have and just not watch the film/programme/whatever.

I'm sure me saying this won't do any good, of course, but evidently this must not be clear to you. "Trigger warning" does not mean "warning for people with weak stomachs or low psychological fortitude".

So you think that anyone who doesnt live every day as a victim with PTSD must never have gone through any type of trauma..... Interesting view you have.

I know that especially these days we have many super sensitive people that society feels we need to coddle and that's why we have to have warnings on episodes of The Muppet Show.

Many people on earth have gone through some sort of trauma. Some deal with it much better than others and don't let it dictate the rest of their lives. Some people just like being victims.

Anyway, I cant wait to watch this movie.

Nope! Not what I said. Kindly refrain from putting words in my mouth.

This is a really hateful Hot Take, but I can't say I'm surprised after everything else you've said. You're judging people who have legit psychological damage as if they're just being "sensitive" and should just "deal with it" so you don't have to... what, roll your eyes at warnings? I dunno. Doesn't seem like it negatively affects your life in any way and certainly helps people who aren't you.

It's an excellent film that deals with rather difficult issues very deftly and I was very impressed indeed.

This is not what 'trigger warnings' are, like generalized notices of profanity. It's so people who have been raped, for example, know that what they are about to watch will contain a depiction of rape, and that viewing that depiction of rape will run the risk of triggering traumatic memories of their own rape. It's really not complicated.

If any guy is that offended by this movie he's part of the problem. I've watched the movie with guy friends of mine and they all thought it was a great movie and didn't take issue with it. They're smart enough to know that it's not saying all men are bad.

[Show spoiler] I will admit it would have been cool to see a guy actually send her home. That's one thing I'd have liked included. But hey at least her dad is nice and Molina's character doesn't end up being total garbage.

I got the impression from the little black book that she kept with different colour markings that one of the colours represented guys that didn't treat her like a piece of meat.

Some were marked in red, others in blue or black.

That's an interesting point. This is the description in the script:

"She has been counting something. There are rows and rows of little tally marks. The odd line in a different colored ink: whatever this is has been going on for a while."
