It's similar to Watch Dogs 2 in ways, where Marcus was part of DedSec, an organized group made up of tech people and unusual clothing fashion at times. But instead of crimes against citizens like a gang or mafia, they did crimes against authority. Then again, Aiden Pearce of WD1 was a criminal as he'd skim thousands of dollars from average citizens walking on the street. Marcus from WD2, could pick any citizen to be arrested or attacked by a gang. So what's shown so far of the group in Saint's Row 2022 is not too different from WD2's group.

Nobody said every street gang was tough and wouldn't get their asses kicked?
![]() Seriously though, yeah, the route they went with the group is a really stupid idea. Other than the game being prettier, it'd probably make more sense just to play Watch Dogs 2 since that story at least makes sense. |

I feel like everyone’s comparing it to Watch Dogs just because of one of the characters wearing the robot-head mask in that first trailer. There is a street gang in the game that wears those, so my guess is if this story sequence ends up in the actual game, the Saints are trying to pin the theft on this other gang.
The Watch Dogs games are mostly about stealth and espionage. This does not seem to be stealth at all. It looks more like shooting and blowing shit up. The “lead” character we see in these trailers is a character you can create to look however you want. |

Like with Watch Dogs 1, Aiden Pearce is a cooler character than WD2's Marcus in terms of style IMO. Watch Dogs 2 was okay at best. Thankfully they brought Pearce back in DLC for Watch Dogs 3. A good amount of fans do care about the characters, that is true. One more example would be like having Luke Skywalker as the hero, replaced with Jar Jar Binks. I don't think I'd buy the game if that was the hero. So you make a valid point that the hero of the game does matter. Quote:
In Saint's Row, you're right, that's mostly about run and gun tactics, over the top crazy action. -------- I see the game will deliver that at least. The crew is what resembles Watch Dogs 2 in terms of a weird looking team with those bow ties and orange and green suits or whatever. Not what most would hope to see for a tough street gang or Mafia. If they want those characters, that's one thing but offer a choice for players to select their favorite style of characters from prior games and that would solve a lot. I think they have the story chiseled in stone now with all the voice acting and scenes completed for animation and music, so it's kind of a done deal as far as that goes. It would have to be a Sonic The Hedgehog Movie situation, for them to go back to the drawing board and redo the main heroes of the game. As a mild fan of Saint's Row, I'll probably get it on sale down the road if the map looks too similar in style to past games. |

The character design is so generic, I'm impressed. What will they start a gang war over? Getting their supplies of soy from the underground dealers? Missing a hipster LP re-release of the next Billie Eilish album or to get the front of the queue at an iStore? It really doesn't look right lol.

It'll be interesting to see how the next GTA game is going to turn out. See if they'll sanitize their edgy humor as well. |

They said the desert will be opened up, so it's not just for cutscenes only then. That's cool at least.
If this game was really good, it would let you pick who your team is. But they don't give players that option at this point. It's still early, and things could potentially change by February. I'd expect delays. |

I know this Saint's Row series is like a parody of reality and not grounded in realism. The gang members in this game are not what most people would expect, especially with the gang with the glowing round sphere masks on their heads.
I wonder what year this takes place in? Has to be about 20 years from now. Or do those glowing orb masks exist today to purchase and wear in public? I guess in dance clubs probably. Okay, they're called rave "LED face masks". |

The good news about the reboot of Saint's Row is:
3rd person view. Open world Action game planned for early 2022 until it's expectedly delayed. Set in the desert with a Las Vegas like City to explore. Motorcycles, cars, trucks, vehicles to freely control. The bad news is, a lot of the familiar content and sense of humor of the prior games has changed or been tossed away by Volition. Having only played and lost interest in Saints Row 1, Gat Out of Hell and President's Run (or whatever it's called), I've never felt attached to the Saint's Row brand, but I can understand the frustration and disappointment many fans are feeling from the drastic change to the main characters of the game. Maybe Volition will finally listen to the fans and allow a wider choice of your main characters to play as. |
