I doubt the resolution on this is that low. This is around the time anime shows like Blood: The Last Vampire, Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex and One Piece were going HD. A high-budget production like this probably had the studios using production pipelines that were made for HD production. The resolution was likely in the range of 540p and 720p and then upscaled to 1080p (a common practice that's still done to this day). I doubt we'll have an Advent Children situation on our hands here.
There's heavy gate weaving for most of the shorts, and some chromatic aberration is visible on Program, I also have the DVDISO, the resolution on those seems to be fairly lackluster for a 480p transfer of a 2K anime

This franchise really has gone down some bizarre rabbit hole. I couldn't care less about the movie on uhd or uuhhdd. I'm done with it. The Milkrix coming to milking consumers everywhere soon.

Why does it say "open matte" when it looks cropped?

Because most of it is open matte but some had to be cropped to keep it all in one aspect ratio.

Oh yeah, it's everywhere. They opened the top and bottom but had to remove the sides in the majority of shots. It still meets the definition, though.

The 35m is how I remember the movie in theaters. I hate the sickly green added later to show inside the Matrix.

It also ends the "it was always meant to look green" argument. It arguably wasn't a good idea to do so for the sequels, it's even worse to retroactively apply it to the original. Looking at that scan, I'm reminded at how beautiful the film looked in theaters, it really should have been nominated for an Oscar for cinematography.

If we can get mad at Lucas for needlessly changing his movies, we should apply those feelings toward decisions like these. They're not as obvious as CG beasts blocking a shot but they're just as revisionist.

I keep saying this ad nauseam. More picture doesn't mean better picture. What matters is whatever the filmmakers chose to compose it for. That's why I don't lose my crap over how we don't get to see films shot in IMAX in their full ratio (although I'd love to see those segments included as a special feature) since they were made for a specific experience and not meant for general viewing.

But what they said about the choice of green in The Matrix Revisited documentary brings that argument back. The theatrical prints might not be completely accurate to what was intended either.

I'd be curious to see more of a happy middle, like 2.2:1, which I think already makes a huge difference for home viewing, where 2.4:1 is rare. Very attractive in The Sound of Music. But without actually seeing it, I can't tell if there would be dead space like in the open matte version of The Matrix. That version reminds me of The Wire. Some people don't believe me when I tell them that nearly every shot in the widescreen version has been cropped at the top and bottom until I show them. They probably would have had to cut almost nothing if they were willing to use a happy middle, like 1.66:1.

I haven't purchased from https://www.hdmoviesource.com before. What had been the general experience from your experiences (good/bad)? Did you place more orders?

Does anyone know yet if this will be just a slipcover with the 4k cases in it like the Batman Anthology? Or if it'll be more of a special edition case like Zack Snyder's Justice League Trilogy?

And it's up for sale on Best Buy now, along with the steelbook and regular 4K edition.

I'll wait for the standalone release as I'm not in a hurry to see this. Saw all three of the originals theatrically. I was 17 and a senior in high school when I saw the first one twice and it was quite the experience.

Best Buy lists this as $84.99, meaning $21.25 a film. If we look at the trilogy's price, it's usually $62.99 (roughly $21.25 x 3), according to BB.

I predict this will go down to $54.99 soon. The trilogy's latest deal was $39.99, meaning $13.33 a film. Multiply that with 4, it's around $54.99, which, ironically, is the current price for the trilogy set.

That YouTube video is certainly not representative of what the 4K looks like on my screen -- there is a distinct difference between the way the first film looked on remastered DVD and initial Blu-ray and the way it looks on the 4K-era remastered UHD and Blu-ray. They dialed the green back significantly.

It is an extremely unimportant nitpick but I just wish the original three Matrix 4Ks used the artwork that was on the slipcovers (with the white backdrop) on the actual sleeves instead of the code artwork forming random objects. It seems inevitable that the new set will just be a slipbox, but if it's actually a digipak or if the individual releases have different covers, I'll replace my existing set just for that.

I tore up all my 4K Matrix slipcovers. I don't like the white rabbit, keys, and sentinel under the slips either, but the bullets flying at the cast in Matrix 1 and Morpheus holding his katana in the wrong movie on the Matrix 3 cover were extra lame in my opinion. As were some of the trio's stances, actually. The only good cover this series ever had was the original poster.

Amazon.ca has a listing. The initial price is very high, at $134.99CAD but I expect that to drop off after BestBuy.ca posts their listing and they will likely match.

Has there been any additional photos released of this? Curious on what the cases are like.

I could not agree more.

I upgraded to the blu-ray "ULTIMATE" collection and it was very lazy packaging. I mean, the shell was an upgrade, but the individual parts are bad. No more of that great artwork. It broke my heart to leave the DVDs at my parents house for my mom, ha.

Fun fact, there are two different rabbits on the cover of the Matrix 4K in two different releases. One like the tattoo and the second release is angry.

I liked the slim bluray box set. I switched out the slim for 2 disc cases for 4K and it is so nice with original poster art.

Doesn't the bluray set have it all and also Animatrix in HD or 4K. I forget.

Also I am wondering how much new is in this set.

Besides the color on first, I thought the Atmos was fantastic and overall the trilogy and all extras were amazing on the 4K set.
