I think it’s less about the sales potential of HPD and more about the sales potential of 4K in general. When their BD came out, they had only released Hannibal and were still sorta testing the format waters. They only started going HAM with UHD announcements after Mad Max and Spaceballs, I believe.

Bought the Kino Blu in last summer's sale (replete w/slip), so I'm good.

that's my take as well...

If.......... and only if......... I hear that this is a stupendous 4k that knocks it out of the park... then I'll upgrade again but I figure the chances of that are pretty low.. that's gonna be my attitude going forward with these cash grab 4k releases that come out uncomfortably soon after blu ray double/triple dips....

The Kino Blu looks pretty great as-is (as did the previous Universal release, frankly), so I'm not keen on dropping another $20 when it pops up in a future Kino sale.

Cool that this is coming to UHD, but my question is why wasn't it just released on 4K to begin with? I just bought it this year. Ugh.

Kino didn't initially have the 4K UHD rights when they released the BD. They added them later retroactively.

I get that it can be annoying when you buy a release on an earlier format and the newer/better format gets announced afterwards, but that's part of the hobby.

I get that titles get re-released on better formats, and I agree that's part of the hobby of collecting. However, they put out a new edition of this film only a YEAR ago. That's what I find particularly annoying.

Add me to the growing chorus of folks who are miffed by this announcement having just bought Kino's new blu this past year. Don't get me wrong, I understand the concept of double-dipping. I've bought and re-bought dozens (if not hundreds) of movies on DVD, blu-ray and 4K, standard editions, special editions, steelbooks, you name it. I know it's part of the deal. What annoys me is getting double-dipped on something within a relatively short amount of time from the previous "new" release and I won't be buying HPD for that very reason. I just can't afford it anymore. I have to start being more selective. Remember the days when Best Buy would give you a $5 credit for trading in your DVD copy to put towards buying a new blu-ray of the same movie? Man, those were the days. Now the collectors (the ones largely keeping physical media alive) are just expected to buy and re-buy the same movies over and over again.

I didn’t either as the PQ etc was the same as the Universal release. I decided I could live without the extra features but now it’s going to be a 4K UHD I’m all in when it comes out and will pre order it with super fast extra speedy shipping to get it sooner once it’s released.

The last update I saw is from Februrary that just says that it's unscheduled.
