Showings starting at 3PM are not "preview" showings. That's an entire day of showtimes, especially for a movie playing on multiple screens at each theater. So that's a $50 million Thursday and $50 million Friday. They have got to stop lumping two days in as one day and calling that an opening day total.

That's how it's always been and will always be the case.

It won't do $2B without a Chinese release.

so Tenet, No Time To Die, etc can get multiple days added to their Fridays but Spidey can't?

Went twice last night and loooooved it.

3pm show was about 3/4 full but the 7pm was PACKED. Those people you see in my pic are up front in the super close seats, sucks to be them.

My theatre doesn't have reserved seating so first come, first serve. I got my favorite seat for the 3pm showing.. and the movie theatre workers were nice enough to let us stay there as they cleaned since we had tickets for the next showing in that theatre.. good thing we stayed in our same seats because after the theatre workers let the people in line in, the theatre filled up about 90% in minutes.

I went to get a bottled water at 7pm and there was already a huge line in the lobby for the 8pm show.

The 7pm audience was definitely louder than the 3pm one. Haven't felt/heard that level of cheering since Endgame. This showing may have been louder tbh.

It was normally 6pm and later, before that it was Midnight screenings. They keep expanding it. It was not always that way.

Where did I say that?

This should be across the board with every film. It should have never changed when they started doing 7 and 9PM shows. That's a separate day. Midnight shows, which aren't even a thing anymore, obviously should count.

What I mean is Thursday is always going to be preview numbers, regardless if it's 3pm, 7pm, 11pm.

Welp. Looks like I was just a tad off. Showings were nearly sold out even at the less populated-theaters here on Thursday.

The movie theater is dead, long live the movie theater.

From Deadline:

Sony, I hear, already has $97M in the bank for today, which should put the Tom Holland-Zendaya picture between $115M-$120M (including $50M previews).

$250M HAS to be in play. I'm browsing Minneapolis suburbs showtimes and Saturday's showtimes are mostly sold out.

For sure. They’re still doing midnight-1am screenings tonight too, plus I’m seeing screenings as early as 8:30am tomorrow. If they can squeeze as many premium format showtimes as they possibly can per day, I don’t see how this thing can’t reach $200 million at minimum.

The film will have to have terrible word of mouth for it to barely make $200M.

Don't forget this is a movie that people actually want to re-watch.

Didn't you say about a year ago that WW84 was the greatest movie of the year?

But reality you say...

Long on memory, short on sympathy.

C'mon we all like some bad movies, there's always at least a few in our collection that are sixes at best.
