Hearing Heartbreaker and Whole Lotta Love, for the first time, that way, was a mind blowing experience. It was a religious experience, in that I was 100% converted to Led Zeppelin in one night!
Sounds like my setup back then, maybe a year or two later. Also had an Allied amplifier (couldn't afford speakers).

Music like Zepellin's was a pretty new thing to me back then, actually most music of that sort was (courtesy of "underground radio"), but the first Led Zeppelin album grabbed ahold of me when it originally came out (I recall Communication Breakdown and Dazed And Confused doing it for me in particular). Second album was pretty good too. (Honorable mention to Blue Cheer's Vincebus Eruptum.)

Took me a while to get around to Van Halen. (Got to finally see them on their last tour.)

I haven't found any of the CD releases that have the raw energy of the original LP release of the first few Led Zeppelin albums. As time went on, all the rough edges were shaved off and it kept getting wimpier and wimpier with each remaster.

When I was a kid in the early 1970s, "that band from Pasadena" played all the time near me, but I never went to see them. I probably should have.

I actually only had (and still do) a few of the Zep record albums: I, II, IV and Presence. And only managed I and Presence on CD. Didn't really like what I heard of the high-res remasters, just sounded too different, but that could have been before I in recent years got a good headphone setup figureed out (started out way wrong, ended up pretty right). May get back around to them at some point, take another listen via Amazon Music… added to todo list.

First I time I ever heard of Van Halen was maybe the summer I spent at home between undergrad and grad school ('77), not sure any of it sank in back then. The mtv videos brought them way more to my attention, though I didn't pick up any of their music until the '00s. I'm pretty saturated/overloaded as it is, but Amazon Music for them also added to the (huge) todo list.

I thought I originally ordered this, but I guess I only ordered "1984."

I only see Van Halen I, II, and Fair Warning available to order on both MOFI and Acoustic Sounds. Were the others canceled?

Just got an email from Mofi stating that those, along with a few others previously announced, had been pulled since they’re not due until later this year or 2025. But apparently still on track to be released.

At the rate MOFI releases things after they are announced I expect 1984 to come out when my great grandchildren gruduate from college. Also, I don't even have any children.

Still waiting on my VH and VH II cd copies.

What’s the deal with MoFi? Do they print like 20 copies at a time? And why the super long wait. Is there a specific manufacturing process here? Genuinely curious.

What do you think of it? I wasn't overly thrilled but I'm not that familiar with the sound of the album originally.

I listened to the current CD remaster and then the MOFI SACD of Van Halen I last night. I prefer the remaster so I am going to pass on the rest of the SACDs. If they were multichannel I would get them all but I felt that the remaster was more open than the SACD if that makes any sense. I used the Sony x700 4K UHD player for both. I even did a second listen of both with my Sennheiser headphones and still prefered the cheapo remaster CD.

I can completely understand that given my thoughts on the first album's SACD above. The only other one I have on PO is "1984" cuz I suspect it should sound pretty dang good, but we'll see.

In the past few years, CD remastering has gotten a lot better. We seem to be past the hot mastering era, but a lot of those lousy discs are still in print, so you have to be careful.

It's gonna be 2084 before I get my copy of "1984."
