I'll pre-order this, but not from Severin. They only have one guy working in their warehouse, and he's half-blind with one arm and pushing 90 years of age.

This is definitely a case where the B side is more interesting.

I think there are plenty of obscure Christopher Lee titles left for Severin to do a couple more sets anyhow provided they continue to sell well. They may have to make a non Eurocrypt set just for continuity reasons but here's some of the ones they can pick from:

1. The Treasure of San Teresa (1959) aka Hot Money Girl. - Lee is billed 4th but isn't in the film much.

2. Too Hot to Handle (1960) - Lee plays a sleazy nightclub employee

3. Beat Girl (1960) - Lee plays a sleazy nightclub owner

4. The Hands of Orlac (1960) - French remake of an old silent film

5. The Devil's Daffodil (1961) - German film, one of Lee's Asian roles

6. The Devil's Agent (1962) - Unrelated to Daffodil but both are difficult to find.

7. The Virgin of Nuremberg (1963) - This is a must. I heard they tried to include it in this set but weren't able, hopefully they can work things out for a volume 3.

8. Theatre of Death (1967) - Previously available from Anchor Bay on DVD this one is pretty good and deserving of an upgrade.

9. Eve (1968) aka The Face of Eve - Nearly impossible to find in the States. I think there's a DVD in the UK.

10. I, Monster (1971) - Amicus' take on Jekyll/Hyde and long OOP on DVD.

11. Umbracle (1972) - An odd Spanish art film that Lee did in the early 70s.

12. Poor Devil (1973) - This is an American TV movie but hard to find in good quality. Lee plays Lucifer who is the boss of Sammy Davis Jr.

13. The Butcher, the Star and the Orphan (1975) - French rarity that I have never located and know very little about.

14. Albino (1976) aka The Night of the Askari - This one is about an Albino man going around killing people in Africa. Lee is one of the cops looking for him if I recall correctly. Hard to find.

15. The Keeper (1976) - I believe this is an actually a Canadian horror film but it is hard to find in good quality.

16. End of the World (1977) - An odd sci-fi flick that could use a good clean-up. Existing DVDs are poor quality.

17. Starship Invasions (1977) - This one has never been released since VHS.
Weird sci-fi movie with terrible costumes for the aliens including Lee as Captain Rameses.

18. Jaguar Lives! (1979) - Odd martial arts action flick with a lot of big names in supporting roles including Lee. DVD is long OOP.

19. Bear Island (1979) - Action adventure flick with a great cast and based on an Alistair McLean novel. Not released since VHS.

20. Desperate Moves (1980) aka Steigler and Steigler. - An odd comedy with Lee as a condescending self-help therapist. Not released since VHS.

21. Tales of the Haunted (1981) aka Evil Stalks This House - TV movie that Lee hosted starring Jack Palance. All the versions I've found are heavily edited and the Lee material is missing.

22. Goliath Awaits (1981) - Excellent 2-Part TV movie with a great cast about a boat that is sunk during WWII. Years later the wreck is discovered but there are still survivors on board all these years later. Lee is the Captain and he delivers a really terrific performance in this one.

23. Massarati and the Brain (1982) - TV movie with Lee as the villain

24. Un metier du seigneur (1986) - Not available anywhere

25. The Girl (1987) - exploitation film starring Franco Nero. Lee shows up towards the end as a detective.

26. Mio in the Land of Faraway (1987) - East European fantasy with Lee as the villain. DVD long OOP in the US. Also features a young Christian Bale.

27. Dark Mission: Evil Flowers (1988) - Jess Franco exploitation film

28. Olympus Force (1988) - Nearly impossible to find. I think there's a Laserdisc out there but I've never found it.

29. L'avaro (1990) - Spanish comedy with Lee as a Cardinal

30. The Care of Time (1990) - Hard to Find TV movie with Lee again as a villain

31. Funny Man (1994) - British low-budget horror with Lee in a small supporting role but this one is certainly up Severin's alley as weird.

There might be a couple others but these are basically some of the most obscure and hard to find Lee films with a couple exceptions (Theatre of Death is included just as it would fit though it is fairly easy to find on DVD)

Many of these wouldn't fit into the idea of a Euro set but maybe they eventually just do some regular Lee sets that some of these films would fit into better.

Both sets have their appeal. Vol. 1 was mainly 60s Euro Horror and the obscure TV series, Theatre Macabre from the early 70s.

This set is more broad in it's range of content. (1959-1989). You've got a couple horror comedies. A German krimi from the 60s. A straight up horror film from 1974 and a couple obscure 80s thrillers.

The big appeal for Volume 1 for me was the TV series and just getting high quality remasters of films that had previously only been available as cheap public domain type releases but most of those films had been available in some degree.

Volume 2 has stuff that hasn't been released here in the States since VHS days if at all. I'm pretty sure Dracula and Son, Uncle Was a Vampire, Mask of Murder and Dark Places never had releases in the US. Murder Story did have a VHS because I have it. Secret of the Red Orchid did get a DVD, it was a double feature with another Klaus Kinski movie I believe but picture quality was poor.

Dark Places was released on VHS and Beta by Embassy Home Video in the US. You can find a few copies on eBay. Unauthorized DVDs using VHS rips have surfaced in the US and overseas for years; an Italian DVD (which I’m not sure I’d call gray market or legitimate) uses a rip of the Italian VHS and features about 2 minutes of footage not shown in the US release. Both these versions run 85 or 86 minutes (there’s a PAL speed-up on the Italian release), the new Blu ray runs 91 minutes uncut.

For fans of this film, this is very exciting.

I cannot buy this until the April 15 payday, because I just spent money on Interpol concert tickets. If it's sold out by then, then I guess it was not meant to be.

The first set is still in my unwatched stack. Soon.

Wow, that's quite a list you've compiled. Some of these I haven't even heard of. As I scanned it, I noticed just one title that already has a blu-ray release: I, Monster, which was released in the UK by Indicator last year. So it is region B.

Anyway, it certainly looks like more boxed sets are possible. I suspect, however, the elements for many of these may not be in great shape.

BobSimms mentioned already that Dark Places did have a VHS/Beta release here in the US. It was pretty easy to find. The box just had a still of Joan Collins' smiling face, haha, obviously to cash in on Dynasty's popularity at the time.

But Dracula and Son also had VHS releases in the US. First was from Columbia Video (before it became RCA-Columbia Video) in the early days of video, that one was pretty hard to find. And years later, the movie was reissued by Goodtimes. Of course, both tapes were only the US version with the bad dubbing, etc.

Severin doesn't sell the box set titles individually?
I don't want to purchase a whole box when I'm only interested in a single title.

This is great news but I still haven’t watched my volume one box.
Such are the problems we collectors endure.

I didn't know I, Monster got a UK release. I mainly follow Region A only.

I suspect you are right about the film elements but then again you never know. I've managed to find almost all of Lee's filmography. Missing a couple films and a handful of his early TV appearances in the 1950s and I never thought this would be possible when I started collecting back around 2002.

Based mostly On Edgar Wallace stories, Germany began producing them in the 60s. They were a direct influence on Giallo and it's signature characteristics (unusual murder weapons, unseen killers, and black-gloved killers).
