I usually wait a few months after a Ubisoft AC game first releases, and watch the price drop from 59.99 down to 29.99 by then many times. But you have to jump on the price at that point if you really want to play it, or it'll jump quickly back up after a week or less, back to 59.99. Only after years, will the game eventually drop to 19.99 consistently.

So Mirage has the player exploring the city of Bagdad according to the videos. It reminds me of the first city from the first game. Every street seemed the same, so hopefully they vary it up this time.

I still remember seeing the first info about the first AC game, and how you'd be walking in a crowded street, and your assassin would find a path through the crowded without stumbling most times. I don't remember them mentioning how the game would also climb for the player, jump for the player, and balance on a narrow ledge for the player too, just by holding up on the analog, zero skill required, unlike the fighting at least....

These games drop in price fast after release day.

A lot of the times in AC games, you’re moving fast whether it be running across rooftops, climbing buildings, escaping pursuers and so forth so why would you want to have separate inputs for these moves. Doesn’t make sense to do so. Traversal in the last three AC games are much better than the earlier ones. Glad they’re implementing the “climb anywhere” mechanic into Mirage. Pretty dumb when you have to run around a building looking for that one ledge that you can grab onto, passing ten other ledges that look exactly the same in doing so.

Climbing is fun in these games, and pushing up seems logical, but I'm a gamer who prefers to be able to jump whenever I want with a jump button, duck/sneak whenever I want with R3 or L3, and balance on ledges by keeping the character from leaning too far to either side. Otherwise I can close my eyes, push up, and get through a whole map of obstacles without any issue, which IMO, is a game doing all the work as the AC games often do for the player. By this point, Ubisoft should've offered an option for manual inputs, but it never happened.

I remember first playing AC, and being bored by the game taking away all of the skill required to traverse an obstacle course environment.

On the PS Store, I saw recently AC Valhalla at 59.99 again. For the disc, that's more consistent in eventual price drops though.

I really want to see an AC game take place in modern times. Watch Dogs Legion DLC is the closest thing to it, where an AC character is playable with her own missions.

These ancient cities all look very similar IMO. I feel like I'm playing the same game each time.

Is this game smaller than normal AC games in terms of play length? It's priced for PS5 at 49.99, yet Ubisoft is charging 69.99 for Avatar Frontiers PS5. So something is going on here if it's not a remake.

Nothing is going on here, it’s been known for a while now that Mirage will have a smaller map and will be returning to the stealth gameplay from the earlier games. It’s going to be interesting to see how well this sells. People were complaining about the last 3 games and how they were too big and emphasized RPG/action over stealth, so here you go. I think it’s going to do moderately well but will pale in comparison to the previous games (especially Valhalla which is AC’s most financially successful game in the series).

Fortunately, AC will be continuing the RPG gameplay with the feudal Japan game coming out after Mirage.

I see, that is what is happening to warrant such a big discount price; the smaller map size. Interesting. Thanks! 49.99 compared to 69.99.

I enjoy a giant map, but I can understand why people want a more concentrated experience, which saves Ubisoft money too, not having to build all those other stories and side missions, map and assets. The fact that they're willing to pass on those savings is surprising instead of just charging full price. That's fair of them, suggesting a smaller experience game length.

An ancient Japan game after that? I haven't heard about it. Interesting, thanks.

Good to hear AC Mirage has gotten good, compared to Unity AC, which really suffered from bad optimization on release day.

Now if it's gone gold, that's a different situation there.

I want to pick this up but i always wait for AC games to drop to around $30. Seems to happen pretty quickly after launch with all Ubisoft games.

It actually pays to wait with Ubisoft games.
Now is that because they sold the majority that they were hoping for, so they lower the price to keep the cash flowing with sales?
I heard that happens with the Madden or sports series. They sell their yearly quota and then discount the remainder disc versions to keep sales moving.

Review embargo lifts tomorrow, looking forward to seeing how it does. Early previews seemed fairly promising last month.

This inherits too many things I didn't like about Valhalla, with the dodge stamina being the straw that breaks the camels back for me. I can't say I'm interested. This was originally gonna be Valhalla DLC and it shows.

Reviews seem solid so far and also i guess it's widely available for less than the price of a MSRP. There seems to be some solid talent involved too in voice acting etc.

I think it's inevitable some games may choose to perhaps keep that mechanic in if the dodge is giving invincibility frames and they don't want that exploited to make the game too easy.

I’ve seen a lot of people signing up for a month of Ubisoft+ to play this game. The service seems really expensive when compared to similar offerings from EA or even PS+ or Game Pass.

I’m looking forward to playing this, but I’m busy enough w/ other games that I can wait for the typical Ubi deep discounts after a few months.
