Lol, I really don't think this thread is as negative as some of you are making out. At least not initially. I think everyone's just a bit shell-shocked to see this finally coming out. The set looks lovely, but while I like the film plenty, I don't really need a gargantuan 6-disc set. I'll wait for Arrow's offering, assuming it's still happening.

That it's there at all is what chills my marrow.

Actually, for Frighteners, they do say on FB that they don't exclude a subsequent release, but that depends on how well the current one sells. Absolutely understandable, actually. Better than release just the first version and then leave the title to eBay scalpers.
You don't say?!? Sorry but

And no, Arrow isn't even always best encoding wise. I don't like some of the stuff that Turbine does either, but they also didn't provide a totally shitty Pitch Black BD for ex.
I could've just said that I'd wait for the Arrow version but I would've been jumped on by Swiss Miss for saying that anyway, so I might as well go full Geoffy and get the most value from my comments.

Thats why your opinion on ANYTHING that they do will always be biased. Even on the good releases. Its kinda sad honestly.

btw: they dont do that here on frighteners.
The answer was "If the first Edition sells good there will be others".

And question to you:
How many major labels gave mail answers like "Nothing is planed at the moment" and then BAM something was coming.
I dont get the hate for this honestly.

What is the fookin Problem with that as long as you get the original Audio too?? Like here with Frighteners.
What is wrong with remixing something if the results are good?
I dont get that AT ALL! Especially when the original Mix is offered too.

And please dont act like turbine is the only label doing this.

Am i right that you dont even have 5.1 Audio or do i mix this up with someone else?
please correct me if im wrong with that. and i apologize if im really wrong here.
Anyway:
If you dont have 5.1 i can understand you personally dont care.
But to throw all Remixes in the garbage is again..biased...

Im open to this stuff but to put the original audio on the disc too should be the way to go.
I love good remixes though. Which is nothing i have to apologize for.

Geoff....this is a Bonus Disc. BONUS
Its almost laughable that you can go off like that because of a Bonus Feature.
I would understand you if the main feature is presented that way.
But all the fuzz because they did that as Bonus? Really?

So if this turns out good you just could be fair against a turbine release and not so biased.

I would bet my whole collection that if arrow had announced the exact SAME Boxset you would be over the moon and praise it.

BTW:
Im NOT a Turbine Fanboy.
But im not as demanding as you and others in technical aspects therefore i have a lot more to like with turbine releases. Its that simple.
I also dont have 4K Equipment (only a 4K Player for remasterings exclusive to that format) and i am not interested at all in buying a 4K Display.
So instead of accusing me to be a fanboy you should see it from my point of view: im happy with some AI Remastering Turbine did on Blu Ray Level (Dragonheart, Twister) because it looks A LOT better then the old Universal Blus on my screen.
Would i prefer a REAL Remastering? Of course i would.

What i dont liked is the UHD of No Escape btw.
On UHD level even i as blu ray 1080p user dont support AI Shenanigans.
To actually only upscale a movie that is Pre-DI is a really bad move.
They never should have made an UHD of that.

What i liked in the set is the Blu Ray because like twister or Dragonheart it looked (for me) way better than the older blu ray i had. But i know exactly what im getting.
And at least its not an upscale when a 1080p remaster is..ehm..."AI optimized".
Upscales are s*h*i*t. No matter on what format.

I'll wait for a single disc release.
I don't need the extra fluff.

And I wanna wait and see, if they used DNR or not.
I'm not in a hurry.

How many believe that a 4K UHD will make its debut in US and UK by Arrow very soon? I certainly believe it. My instincts are never wrong.

Looks great, but I think I'll wait to see what Arrow does with this. I still have my copies of Turbine's Crash and An American Werewolf in London 4Ks that have been rendered useless by Arrow's releases.

Turbine just confirmed no Peter Jackson grain reduction and released preview images it looks great makes you wonder if Peter Jackson’s involved then how did what happened to the lord of the rings trilogy extended editions happen. because to me it’s Reality it stranger than fiction type cases too me. yes I know Warner bros different studio but nothing is adding up.

I think the difference is PJ did the LOTR remasters himself at his own post production studio in New Zealand. From the notes in the first post, Universal did the scan, Turbine did the remaster work, and PJ signed off on color.
