The PT demo requires the microphone, which is why I never completed it successfully. I had to watch others figure it out. The clues are too cryptic/obscure for my comfort level. Great demo though for pure horror.
I didn't have a mic, and even if I had I still wouldn't have known how to beat the demo without checking for clues online.

By "toughness" did you mean boss fights or puzzles? For boss fights, I think it wouldn't or shouldn't be as tough if James has better and more fluent movements. As for the latter, I think part of the fun is solving most of those puzzles. The players learn more about the town's history and what's behind everyone's motive by looking for clues.

Yes, that PT demo, I felt the clues were too tough to solve for certain things. Like having to walk or look at a certain thing at the right time when there really was nothing clear to indicate that was the solution all along.
With Silent Hill 2, that's more reasonable, but the enemies can be merciless and tough, so that is where I hope there's an option for a few difficulty modes. Will be interesting to see how Bloober Team handles that. Good point about the puzzle solving unfolding the story alongside it.

Thanks, good to hear Konami will be at the show. That used to be a big show for new games decades ago, but I heard lost a lot of its support from developers since more options became available elsewhere apparently.

Hopefully they reveal some actual game play from these games instead of more cutscenes.

Silent Hill 2, I'll guess Spring or Fall 2024 at this pace.
The spin offs, they'll have to time those far from each other to be smart if they're multi-platform/console/PC.

When is that feature movie being released? 2024? The director shows he cares about the material, but I hope he can make it scarier than Silent Hill 1, which wasn't scary at all IMO, despite the good atmosphere. The first and 2nd games however, definitely creepy/scary game experiences many times.

I keep forgetting they're releasing a movie of Silent Hill 2 as well. I wonder if they'll try and tie the release dates together somehow or keep them their own separate thing. Whichever one releases first had better be good so as not to kill the hype for the other (not that they're in any way dependent on the other, but still). If the game releases first and isn't much good, then it may kill hype for the movie, and vice versa. Or would they leave a window in between to either build more hype or avoid fatigue? I know the original is beloved, but who knows if it's beloved enough to sustain hype for 2 different remakes of it within a short window?

Hopefully they'll both be good! I'm sure at least one of them will be. Right? R....right?

We can but hope.

Talking of which, I was hoping we'd get the Silent Hill 2 remake this year. Rumour long has been that it's finished. It's just gone very quiet at the moment and no gameplay. The Tokyo game show would be a good place to remedy that.

With Bloober Team saying suddenly and abruptly, that they're done with psychological horror games - does this bode well??

I hope they stick closely to the original's story and dialog, but also expand the map a bit so we can see more stuff.

Either way, being in Silent Hill is not a pleasant experience with evil lurking around each corner, as the sirens blare in the distant fog. Pending doom awaits.

I hope we get Born from a wish because Maria is my favorite character from Sh2 and my favorite character in all of the Sh games.

I hope so too. I hadn't played it until a few years back, but I remember really enjoying it. It's a nice little expansion that doesn't conflict too much with the world and lore, but still raises some interesting questions. If we were to get it, I wonder if it would be included in the base game, or as a separate DLC? Probably the latter, with how things are nowadays.

Yeah, again, Konami will be banking heavily on these new SH titles, and if they don't deliver... Well, it's not going to be good for them or us, but then they will have squandered what little good faith people decided to give them again.

A lot don't have any faith in Konami, so it's a good thing they're licensing the Silent Hill games to 3rd parties to develop the games. Bloober team is competent with Blair Witch and other games, so I think they'll be able to handle Silent Hill 2 at least decently. If it's better, that's good.

Gamers can be easily upset though, as with Silent Hill Downpour, which I enjoyed, but many didn't. Some of the puzzles were ridiculously abstract, in that I couldn't figure them out, like that map table puzzle. But otherwise, a good open map game and the mine cart ride was cool.

Not sure what to expect with the other Silent Hill spin offs. Silent Hill 2 though, the template and story are already there, so it's much easier for Bloober team to get it right thankfully.

This guy says Silent Hill Ascension is not a game, but an interactive web series of some kind for October 31, 2023. That's unusual.

Still confuses me (and many others) how Ascension is going to work. I get that it's basically a choose-your-own-adventure show on a large scale. But what does it cost? What if your desired outcome isn't chosen? They said before it would be available for repeat viewing, but only the decision that was made would be seen- so the only time to make a choice is on the very first airing of the episode. So then what's the point?

I think a Telltale style Silent Hill game could be a lot of fun. Especially since in most of the games, there's invisible choices you make anyway that effect what ending you get. So why not make the choices a little more apparent?

Anywho. I just wanna learn more about the SH2 remake. I'll watch Ascension and the discourse around it with curiosity, but the ones I'm more curious about are still on the way.

Just to touch on the Telltale part. I felt like having played the Walking Dead and Game of Thrones ones that it felt like some choices would always funnel you down a singular path regardless of what you wanted. I felt they could have been a bit more open on those but the concept you described sounds even worse.

That's fair. Ultimately, there can only be so many choices before you branch off too far from what the developers want you to experience. That's one of the big complaints people have with games like the Telltale games or Mass Effect- no matter how many choices you make, eventually you're going to end up at the same conclusion every time.

Games like Heavy Rain, however, (which some people love, some people absolutely hate) execute this a little better, I think, in that literally all the characters can die relatively early into the story. There's far more "bad" endings for characters than there are good ones, and the choices actively effect the characters you're playing as, versus the characters around you, like the Telltale games. Something like that would be better for a Silent Hill choose-your-own-adventure.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not entirely sold on the idea at all. I don't necessarily think Silent Hill needs such a game. The series works so well, I think, because they tell tight, concise stories about these doomed souls. Unless it was executed very well, I think a choose-your-own-adventure game would be clunky or dampen the message. That's what I'm afraid of with Ascension, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

I too am rather apprehensive about Ascension. Personally I'm wondering what will release first, the remake or Silent Hill f, which would be SH9. Hopefully we'll hear more about both of those, and apparently there are unannounced projects in development as well, including at least one being an internal Konami project.

There’s at least three Silent Hill projects which haven’t been announced yet, not including The Short Message. Yes, really. But one of them is in very early development.

I think they're going to want to give Ascension time to breathe before introducing news on a new release, unless this interactive video experience Ascension wraps up in a month or less, and then at the end, they can begin to share news on Silent Hill 2 remake PS5.

Okay, so Silent Hill Ascension really isn't a video game at all. It's an online only video interactive fan group feedback game apparently, premiering on Halloween night 2023 of all nights. Not great timing IMO, but who knows.
If they're charging people for this, I'm confused as to why.

Well, Konami still being Konami

I thought because the Ground Zeros cash grab, off of what pretty much was a single level mission demo was a once off at the time, they probably wouldn't try it again. However, looks like they managed to find a way to make an even more horrendous example of how to do things.

You gotta love the innovation to grift and absolutely detest it on the other.

Thanks. Although there is some hope for this online series as at the very end of the video, it says "Free", but not sure if that's just for the premiere episode to lure people in, but I thought I heard them say it's a pay series in a prior interview somewhere.

The downsides of announcing games years before they have a chance of coming (Silent Hill 2 remake). On the other hand, at least we know.
